Guest Wynn90210 Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 I will be in pattaya for 2 weeks in March. I want a gay friendly place that is near to the gay areas. I do not want to spend a great deal of money on a room but I do want it to be nice and comfortable and have a room service. and, it must allow visitors to the room. My budget is 70$ per night for a room that includes everything. Please suggest best place for me. Quote
Mysteryman Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 I am not sure if I can give any good advice on this, but I wonder if there really are "gay-unfriendly" hotels in Pattaya? Hotels I've stayed at are Mountain Beach, Mercure, Pattaya Bay Resort and Mosaik Apartments. No problems with these. Other accomodations have been renting some apartment from other westeners. This year I will be staying at Renu House. If you can afford 70$/night, you will live like a King in my opinion. Half that price or less, will also give you good accomodation.... in my opinion. Guest Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 How about the Ambiance Hotel ? Location right in Boystown. You could find a hotel for half the money, but no point in making compromises if you're happy to pay $70 a night. Quote
Guest thaiworthy Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 $70 a night buys a lot of accommodation. Not sure if OP really needs to spend that much, but agree completely with Z909 that Ambiance would be an excellent choice. They have a variety of rooms in that price range. Excellent suggestion, Z! MrBill Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 I just spent 8 nights at Le Cafe Royale in Boyztown, checking out yesterday. I can't say enough about how much I enjoyed my stay there, and how impressed I was with the whole operation. I checked on all 3 hotels on Soi 3. Sent emails requesting answers to 3 questions: 1) do you check ID for visitors? 2) Can I pay with credit card? 3) What is the penalty for early checkoout? I got a reply from LCR within 3 hours of sending and it came in at what would have been 3 AM Thai time. Responses: 1) Yes we not only check ID but keep them until visitor leaves and guest gives "OK" to release (and they followed this religiously on each and every visitor I had). 2) All major CC except American Express are accepted. 3) No penalty for changing checkout dates, but please give as much advance notice as possible. I honestly don't remember getting replies from either Copa or Ambience, but I would have to look back as I made reservations a couple of months ago. I did rule out some recommended hotels in Day-Night and Sunee areas because of no CC payments and cash payment in advance with no changes allowed. Beyond that, I found the room descriptions and website pictures accurate for LCR. The 32-inch flat screen TVs were a nice touch. AC was quiet and efficient (I hate those units that let the temp rise 10-15 degrees before kicking in). Staff was friendly and helpful. Restaurant is open 24 hours. On Tuesdays they have a guest reception with any drinks on their menu free, except for bottle prices. I had 4 margaritas, menu price 230 bht/each. Cost to me, just a nice tip to my waiters. Rooms range from standard to suites. I chose a Superior room at 1400 bht/night plus tax and was very happy with my accommodation, no noise from the street below or froom the entertainment in the restaurant. I particularly liked the lighting on a dimmer switch. Yesterday, when I checked out, my flight from BKK did not leave until 11:25 PM, so I decided on doing a half-day at Sriracha Tiger Zoo. No problem for late check out and OK to shower and change afterward at no extra charge. if you have a Utopia card LCR offers a 10% discount. http://www.caferoyale-pattaya.com/ TotallyOz and kokopelli 2 Quote
Guest Wynn90210 Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 I picked the Ambiance as it was reasonable and they get good reviews. I wanted to be right in the gay area and it seem like my three choices in this area with Ambiance, Cafe Royale and The Penthouse. No one here suggested the last option so I went with the Ambiance as several on this site seem to recommend it. having read the last post about the Cafe Royale, I wish I had split things 50/50 between the two but I am not set for my trip in Pattya. thanks to all for so much great info and recommendations. Guest HeyGay Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 Yes staying in a totally gay environment must be nice for some its Like living in a gay town, and the facilities are quite good, but for the same money or less in some rooms BAAN SOUY beats all the GAY HOTELS For facilities, size and atmosphere plus they have an Olympic style swimming pool and its in between pattaya gay bars and jomtiem not in your face daily. With a good restaurant included . http://baansouy.com/ Quote
TotallyOz Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 Yes but the Baan Souy is not in the gay area. If you want to walk to the gay bars, that hotel is not a choice. I will agree that it is beautiful and seems great but I think for a first time visitor, the other two hotels are better choices for easy access to everything. Personally, I think having a pool in Pattaya is important and neither of those hotels have pools but for someone that does not care there are better options. I love the Marriott and they often offer rates around 3500 baht per night which I think is very reasonable. I was looking at the Hilton recently for a friend and they were over 250 USD. Insane IMHO Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 Another problem is that the March room rates for Baan Souy in March are over the OP's budget! The cheapest is Bt.2,500. But it looks a lovely hotel. Quote
Guest HeyGay Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 Yes you dead right Michael if your a first time visitor its recommend jomtien complex or Boys town for In your face gay walking in attractions, even better for a friendly good budget guest house under 1000 baht where your really feel at home, as if you've made so many new gay friends try, "two guys guest house" so nice. http://www.twoguysguesthouse.info/ But if you want comfort and you can get on a motorbike taxi for the 5 Minuite ride away from to much gayness to either areas and you want a luxury gay resort that has everything Baan Souy is the only choice to make. Marriott is fine but rooms not to exciting the ones I have visited Anyway, better off at DUSIT RESORT where I use to stay for 12 years running great place to stay gay staff no joiners fee if you book double rooms. Very Gay friendly one of the owners is Gay. Remember rack rates advertised are only if you walk in off the street, go with "late rooms " or one of the many other booking agencies and they can beat his budget easily, I use to get all the DUSITS for such small change, shop around or even phone the hotel and say on such a web site it's this price what can they do it for, no charges to hotel they will give good price more often than not? http://baansouy.com/ Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 Baan Souy is the only choice to make. Remember rack rates advertised are only if you walk in off the street, go with "late rooms " or one of the many other booking agencies and they can beat his budget easily "Easily"? Oh really? (and yes, the question marks are supposed to be there! ) I can find no booking agency offering any room in March at less than just over $80 - same as the hotel. The hotel itself says it can not offer rooms at less because it is high season and it is full of the cheaper rooms on some dates. Maybe if it is not full a week or so in advance, it will drop rates, but that would be far too late for the OP. FYI - and just to be accurate - for this hotel, www.laterooms.com's lowest rate for mid-March is a whopping Bt. 5,000! Quote
Guest HeyGay Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 Not being a travel agent and unlike you I don't have time to search all the agencies as they all do cheaper deals for different hotels. See link http://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/columnists/nicktrend/7213438/Hotel-booking-should-you-use-an-online-agent-or-go-direct.html But if you search around you will find a good price online to meet his budget or near as Dam it. Sorry it's called D2 now where your find with in his budget 3500 at that time . See ratestogo they have these prices. 4600 March @ DUSIT RESORT DEARER THEN BUT OK OTHER TIMES OF THE YEAR, very gay including manager and Helmet who ran Pergoda restaurant jomtien complex beverage manager there also gay. Guest fountainhall Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 I appear to have confused you - or have you confused yourself? My post clearly referred to your comments about rates at the excellent Baan Souy, not the 2 Dusit hotels. it's called D2 now where your find with in his budget 3500 at that time The OP mentioned his budget is around Bt. 2,100. Thank you for posting the excellent article from The Telegraph. But it refers exclusively to searches within Europe. As has often been stated on this Board, agoda is generally the best site for hotels in Thailand and much of Asia (but not always - especially for Japan). And travelzoo.com often has some great offers around the world which are virtually impossible to beat. The moral, as you rightly point out earlier, is clearly: don't rely on any one source. Always check around. I have before also recommended the website www.hotelscombined.com. This gives you rates from a variety of booking sites all on one page. It save a lot of time. Hope it helps with your future travel. Quote
Guest HeyGay Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 As I have already said shop around your get the price you want, I just looked at the first site i could see agoda for March it came out with an offer of $66 us pool side room . I was there the other day rooms were from 2000 baht and if you speak to Stuart he will give you a good deal I'm sure, rather than loosing commission to agoda . http://m.agoda.com/en-us/asia/thailand/pattaya/baan_souy_resort.html?siteid=1459334¤cy=USD&tag=fe9de073-5891-4bf3-b9d2-81037fcf24c4&type=1&urltogo=http://m.agoda.com/asia/thailand/pattaya/baan_souy_resort.html&gclid=CMObpOmphbQCFUwb6wod0g4A6g Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 I just looked at the first site i could see agoda for March it came out with an offer of $66 us pool side room Alas, you are still incorrect! For you checked December - not March. Plus, the rate you posted is only available until December 9. Thereafter, the December base rate rises to US$94. Also, as is usual with agoda, the rates you first see do not include the taxes, service and other charges. Go to the booking page and you discover that that US$66 rate actually becomes US$77.50. The US$94 rate rises to $110.72. Agoda's cheapest inclusive rate for March is US$94.44. It would certainly be cheaper to book direct with the hotel, but the rate would still be too high for the OP's budget. Quote
Guest Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 Wyb90201 might like to decide on the preferred location first. There are (arguably) 3 gay areas: Boyztown Sunnee (+Day Night) Jomtien (smaller gay scene) It's about 10 minutes walk from Boyztown to Sunnee. About 50 minutes walk to Jomtien, so most people take the baht bus. There must be a good map which shows the relative positions of these, but I can't think where to look right now. Nickys gay pattaya website has some good information about each area. Might be worth checking trip advisor too before making any final bookings. For some hotels, recent reviews are not exactly glowing. Quote
Guest HeyGay Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 Considering I put March in to the search I hardly think it would come up with dates in December , but the best FBI g to do us contact Stuart him self the nan get he will give a good price I'm sure. For a good map if all areas have a look below. http://www.suneeplaza.info/cgi-bin/page.pl?p=map Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 Considering I put March in to the search I hardly think it would come up with dates in December That, with respect, is simply not possible because the exact site you quoted states the much higher amount for March! Anyway, the easiest way to find out that your information was incorrect is to check again! At least one poster finds the information you post about bars etc. in Pattaya very useful. I rarely visit Pattaya and happily defer to your greater expertise in that respect. As far as travel in general is concerned, I travel extensively and book dozens of hotels in different parts of the world each year. I think I know my way around search engines and hotel sites and how usually to get the best deals. I suggest it does a disservice to new posters seeking information about hotels within a very specific budget to post information about hotels with rates that are patently considerably higher. Maybe you might start a new thread about gay and gay-friendly hotels in Pattaya in general. That would I am sure be very useful and welcomed by many. Quote
Guest HeyGay Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 So many different quotes from many search engines, do your home work or contact the hotel for promotions is my advise. All the Hotels I write about are tried and tested either by me or friends? Quote
Guest timmberty Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 id choose mosaik personally .. not so expensive .. and the one bedroom suite is great 80 meters if i remember rightly .. close to all of the gay areas and very quiet of a night time .. id never choose that ban chop suey place as i like nice people .. Quote
Guest thaiworthy Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 I agree with you about Mosaik, but the OP has $70 a night to spend and I get the feeling he is looking for the best bang for his 70 bucks. Thread title reads " . . . gay hotel . . . " Mosaik is a serviced apartment. I have stayed many times at Mosaik, and enjoyed every stay with no problems. But if I could have afforded it, I might have chosen something more upscale. Also, he specifically requested room service, which is not available there. Who and where is Ban Chop Suey? Do you mean Baan Souy Hotel? Why are they not nice people? Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 A little plug for another gay hotel. This little hotel is just outside the OP's range - and in any case he has settled on Ambience. But for the future, I hope readers will also consider Le Privé which is on a small very quiet soi (Soi 1) off the Pattaya end of Thappraya Road and so not far from the main gay areas. It gets great reviews on tripadviser (for what that's worth) and a very high 8.4 rating on agoda. I have stayed there twice in the last 4 years. Le Privé is Thai-style, very informal, very private and has only 6 cabanas around a pool. It is gay run and joiners are welcome. It has a small bar, serves continental breakfast but no other meals. The cabanas all have big beds and all facilities. Most of March is already full but the agoda rate for available dates in late April are US$71.70 http://www.agoda.com...NiYmv0&tyra=1|1 http://www.le-prive-...com/en_home.php Quote
