From Wiki:

Mor lam is a traditional Lao form of song in Laos and Isan. Mor lam means expert song, or expert singer, referring to the music or artist respectively. Other romanisations used include mo lam, maw lam, maw lum, moh lam and mhor lum. In Laos, the music is known simply as lam (ລຳ); mor lam (ໝໍລຳ) refers to the singer.

The characteristic feature of lam singing is the use of a flexible melody which is tailored to the tones of the words in the text. Traditionally, the tune was developed by the singer as an interpretation of glawn poems and accompanied primarily by the khene, a free reed mouth organ, but the modern form is most often composed and uses electrified instruments. Contemporary forms of the music are also characterised by quick tempi and rapid delivery, while tempi tend to be slower in traditional forms and in some Lao genres. Some consistent characteristics include strong rhythmic accompaniment, vocal leaps, and a conversational style of singing that can be compared to American rap.

Typically featuring a theme of unrequited love, mor lam also reflects the difficulties of life in rural Isan and Laos, leavened with wry humour. In its heartland, performances are an essential part of festivals and ceremonies, while the music has gained a profile outside its native regions thanks to the spread of migrant workers, for whom it remains an important cultural link with home.

Morlam had its birth in the Lao heartlands of Laos and Isan, where it remains a popular art form. Although its precursors probably lie in the musical traditions of the historical Tai tribes that migrated south from China and northern Vietnam, much cross-pollination with indigenous music of the region as well as importation of Chinese, Mon-Khmer, Indian and Malay influences has also had a pronounced affect on the dances, instrumentation and melodies of morlam.

In his Traditional Music of the Lao, Terry Miller identifies five factors which helped to produce the various genres of lam in Isan: animism, Buddhism, story telling, ritual courtship and male-female competitive folksongs; these are exemplified by lam phi fa, an nangsue, lam phuen and lam gon (for the last two factors) respectively. Of these, lam phi fa and lam phuen are probably the oldest, while it was mor lam gon which was the main ancestor of the commercial mor lam performed today.

Tosh! (Unless the question mark was there to turn the statement into a question).

In Bangkok, most bars, discos and agogos are usually open as normal on the fifth of December.

I see no reason to think that this year will be any different.

After chatting to many pattaya Bars tonight, all will be closed 5th December,

Are there moron's selling drunks in pattaya? Is this common when one drinks too much? I would hate to get sold into slavery if I drank too much one night.

Exactly my concern. So, to assist clarity, Khun Thaiworthy was kind enough to loan me his enigma machine so I could attempt to discern the meaning of the mysterious phrase "only Moron selling drunks as above as I stated." I am happy to report that we can relax as it translates as: "As above stated, I'm the moron drunk selling only amazing/fabulous events."

Wynn: no need to worry. No one will try to sell you when you are in Thailand. It is a wonderful place and very safe. If you drink so much you stumble out into the streets at night, it is possible that someone will relieve you of your wallet but in no way will they then try to sell you.

Bob: you are too funny but you seem to use the American Standard Dictionary in your interpretation. I'll try to use the Pattaya Farang International King James Version.

That means:

After I strolled around the many bars in Pattaya tonight, I wanted to help the fine readers of Gay Thailand so I asked the owners if they were going to be open or closed on December 5th, 2012. To my astonishment, they all stated that they would be closed. Now, mind you that I only spoke to a few of them but the consensus is they will not open.

As I stated above in my post, the only place that one is able to buy drinks will be at the Mor Lam concert. Come one and come all to the greatest show on earth!

I checked around in Bangkok last night and only found one bar that would be closed tonight (the nameless bar next to Scorpion in Soi Twighlight run by Wirat ex Solid Bar).

The agogo bars that I asked all said it would be business as usual and Balcony Pub posted a message on another board saying it would be open as usual.

So if Pattaya is dark, come to Silom Soi 4, a Moron free zone (unless LMTU arrives without his medication).

So actually "only moron drunks" means "only Mor Lam drinks" will be available.

Well, he was close. He only missed it by a mile. In Pattaya measurement, that's practically a bullseye!

Omg, Michael, another mackerel! Only we guilty ones are privy to the King James version. And, come to think of it, who the hell is King James? Lebron, maybe?

Thanks Michael but it does give them something to think about, rather than being bored reading uninteresting and unmemerable posts

I think most prefer a readable post to one that is not readable no matter how much someone talks about it. The point of these sites, IMHO, is to give good reliable information. You do that often but at times even I can't read your posts. It makes it very difficult for those that don't know you to believe what you write as they can't decipher it.

Really well if you cant read some of the post things must be bad, you can always see good in all the old performers normally

Wow what an Extravaganza of a show, as I said its the best showing Earth you wold have to pay 6000 baht or more for a 4 hour show like that in Las Vegas, the colours the costumes the atmosphere and the amazing audience , I hope you agree with me it's the best.

Thank you also to all those guys who made themselves known to me is someone selling my photo, I'm glad you enjoy my fun repartee on the Forums and don't worry I won't out you especially the 3 who would not tell me their handles, great to meet you all ;)

Ever since the "moron drunks" post, the quality of his writing has improved dramatically, which proves he is capable of putting together a decent sentence when he wants to. Unless someone has been editing his posts for him, (doubtful) I have to give him an "A" for effort. Let's hope it stays that way. If he is coherent, his information can be helpful/useful in his own way.

The Morlam was great fun,

Admission 120 for Thais; 150 for falangs. Cans of Leo 45 baht.

My guestimate would be close to 10,000 people including many gay boys, fem boys, and ladyboys!
