TotallyOz Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 I have been able to keep in touch with many friends and businesses through Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus and other sites. I have found that a great many of the boys also use and check these sites often. When I go to Brazil, all I have to do is post I am headed that way under my Brazil account and I get tons of guys to make appointments for dates and overnights. My last trip there, I had everything pretty well set. I have friends that do the same thing in Thailand and with the easy of communication, social media has made it very easy to keep in touch as well as to meet new friends. In what ways do you use social media to make your experience in Thailand better? Do you find parties and events this way? What is the best platform for meeting Thais? Quote
kokopelli Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 I don't use any social media at all. Maybe I should? People I know often have no computers and others don't reply to emails other than a grunt. Quote
Guest thaiworthy Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 People I know often have no computers and others don't reply to emails other than a grunt. When responding to me, it's more like a groan. I use Facebook regularly but seldom meet anybody new. Only a few farang from these boards use FB and I try to respond with something funny when appropriate and the thought strikes me. People can be very creative sometimes and this is a good place to find that. The best example of this is Traveler Jim. I don't think he'd mind mentioning that. I do enjoy reading what he has to say and respond with a light poke now and then, all in good fun. He also keeps me up-to-date on his medical progress and this is an excellent way to communicate with everyone at the same time. Quote
ChristianPFC Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 I do use camfrog, gayromeo, and facebook (in order of decreasing frequency) to meet new and stay in contact with old Thai friends. I don't use them to find parties and events. Camfrog is the best platform to meet and facebook the best platform to stay in contact. Half of my Thai aquaintances don't use or even never heard of gayromeo, but most have a facebook account. Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted December 24, 2012 Posted December 24, 2012 I am on neither facebook or twitter, and never heard of google plus! I tried facebook for all of 30 minutes and then deleted the account! Christian mentions camfrog. About 3 years ago I did meet up with a couple of guys from there, but I found the novelty of the site wore off pretty quickly. It certainly seems to help if you speak some Thai. I just read on another Board a comment by Christian about the video capture software which is easy to come by and which can record anything you get up to on camfrog. This is one reason why more and more guys are deciding not to show their faces. It also explains why on a few of the video clip sites like xtube there is an increasing number of web captures being shown. Gulp! Living in Thailand, I have never had a problem meeting guys from gayromeo. When I travel (especially in Asia), I find the two most productive sites by far are gaydar and fridae. The latter has more than 600,000 profiles and is essentially a site for Chinese around the world (although there are huge numbers of other Asians and their admirers). Certainly in greater China, fridae is a great way to meet guys who speak at least some English. But to roam and make contacts, you really need to subscribe (around US$50 per year). The good news is they presently have a 2 years for 1 offer. The bad is that the offer closes at 23:59 tonight GMT. http://www.fridae.asia/ Quote
ceejay Posted December 24, 2012 Posted December 24, 2012 I have a GayRomeo account. Twitter doesn't interest me and I will never have a Facebook account because their past security lapses and their continuing cavalier attitude to the privacy of personal information (the Instagram fiasco being the latest) convince me that they cannot be trusted technically or ethically. Quote
ChristianPFC Posted December 24, 2012 Posted December 24, 2012 I have heard of twitter, but don't use it. I have a dormant fridae account, gayromeo is sufficient for Thailand. As far as I know, the basic functions of fridae are free (limited number of messages you can send and profiles you can view per day), so for trying it out, you register for free first and upgrade later if you like it. TotallyOz Posted December 26, 2012 Author Posted December 26, 2012 I have never really enjoyed Twitter and I don't see much use in it but I know many that love it. You might also consider Instagram a form of Social Media. I have friends that love it. It seems that last week when they changed the terms of service there was a huge uproar. I am not sure how well they will recover from it but as it is the same owners as Facebook and we know they have zero value for privacy and content, we should not expect more of Instagram. Quote
Guest snapshot Posted December 29, 2012 Posted December 29, 2012 In my experience, FB is most popular among Thais... It's the best way to keep in touch and see what's happening. Quote
Guest Posted December 29, 2012 Posted December 29, 2012 I use GayRomeo. This time, I also tried using their Android app. This is ALMOST a very good thing. The gps functionality allows you to see who's close by. Where it falls down badly is with the messaging service. The app sometimes has long delays in showing messages. Despite frequent "refreshes", it can still show a message 20 minutes after it's allegedly received. Quote
Guest snapshot Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 If you're talking about meeting new guys then Jack'D is most popular with Asians (though I have never bothered using it in Thailand and never will since I'm no longer single). It's similar to Grindr. Quote
Guest thaiworthy Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 FB is most popular among Thais Jack'D is most popular with Asians Which one is the most popular among Thais, who are also Asians? How can both be most popular? (though I have never bothered using it in Thailand and never will since I'm no longer single). Beachlover, I don't really care if you're single or not, but if you have no experience using these in Thailand, then why are you recommending them? Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 And do we take it that Beachlover/Snapshot has now moved to Thailand, I wonder? No longer the 20s Aussie rich kid? Quote
Guest snapshot Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 ChristianPFC... Since you have such a hunger for hook ups (I had my fun phase too), I highly recommend getting a smart phone and getting onto some of these apps. Seriously, Gayromeo and all that web based stuff doesn't begin to compare to the speed, convenience and mobility of apps. You don't know what you don't know until you try it. Which one is the most popular among Thais, who are also Asians? How can both be most popular? You seem a bit confused (not to mention impolite) because FB and Jack'D serve differing purposes and should not be compared. FB is a social networking platform. You use it to keep in touch with friends and meet friends of friends. Jack'D is a location based dating app you use to meet people you've never met before. I suggested Jack'D because while I've never used it in Thailand, it is enormously popular amongst Asians all over Asia where I have used it, which includes Thais living outside Thailand. While Grindr is better known, I've found that Jack'D has a higher ratio of Asians so it makes more sense to those who prefer Asian guys. Quote
Guest timmberty Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 its best to take everything snapshot says with a very tiny pinch of salt .. from his giving $50.000 to any random thai who asks to the lastest phone tecnology he uses .. altho he has no use for it ... if only he read what he writes before sending it, he could rid the obivious mistakes Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 I read today in BK Magazine that Bangkok has a higher number of Facebook pages than any other city in the world - 8 million. The writer asks a number of Thais why this should me. One commented that Thais love to show off what they are doing to others, even to the extent of taking photographs of a meal they are about to eat and sharing them. And the education system is such that it has created a community of followers, not leaders. Quote
TotallyOz Posted January 5, 2013 Author Posted January 5, 2013 And, FH, many Thais take a snapshot of shoes they purchase, movie tickets bought, receipts of electricity bills etc. It is one of those things I don't get but this seems to be common place. Quote
Rogie Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 And, FH, many Thais take a snapshot of shoes they purchase . . . Indeed they do, FH's Liberace sneakers are quite something. I am on record as lusting after them! http://www.gaythailand.com/forums/topic/8111-gay-thailand-forum-board-updates-and-new-features/page-3?do=findComment&comment=59364 TotallyOz 1 Quote
Guest timmberty Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 i also dont get the taking pictures thing.. thais do it all the time. maybe its a show off thing as they love taking pictures of bills with the money they are about to spend to pay it off .. as for FH liberace sneakers .... is he the glitter man on the bike in pattaya ?? a question i feel needs to be answered !! Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 Haha! Alas, no! I visit Pattaya at most once a year, and I haven't been on a bike for longer than I care to remember. When I bought the sneakers, they were a big hit at parties here. But now I am starting to see almost the same type of flashy sneakers in the stores here in BKK. Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 And, FH, many Thais take a snapshot of shoes they purchase, movie tickets bought, receipts of electricity bills etc. So true, just as the majority spend small fortunes on skin whitening products and would never be seen near a Beach in a month of Sundays! Guest fridae Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 Hello everyone Fridae has launched a new mobile app for andorid and iphone. Please go to you app store to download it or download it from our website. http://www.fridae.asia and let us know what you think Quote
Vessey Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 I have opened a Twitter account in the last few days (chasing Jason...LOL), hundreds of Thai boys have accounts. I have never seen so much filth outside of porn sites! More pictures and video clips of gorgeous Thai cocks and bums than I can shake my own cock at! Quote
Guest whall Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 Thai money bois? Id like to follow those twitter accounts. Names? Quote
Vessey Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 Thai money bois? Id like to follow those twitter accounts. Names? Not sure how many would want to admit to being money boys, but for an insight into the gay scene among younger Thai men/twinks its a real 'eye opener' (cock hardener). Most of the names are in Thai, but one 'follow' leads to another and soon you are following any number you want. Try typing 'Pattaya Boys' into the search to start with. Quote
