TotallyOz Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 I have yet to see when it is so slow in Pattaya, and esp. Sunee, why many of the boys never move over to the bars in Boyztown. On every night I have been here, Boyztown has a bit more customers and more offs then the bars in Sunee. It would seem like a logical move for many of the boys to move to the area that has more business for them. Yet, it rarely happens. Why? In Rio De Janerio, there is a sauna called Meio Mundo and it is in the central location of the city where all the boats come in from other areas. Most guys from some areas start working at that sauna and they charge there lower rates. The place is not as nice as other saunas and they seem to have a good amount of customers but not ones that pay the big money. Most boys work there until they get some good information on where to make more money and they then move over to Club 117 or another larger sauna. Past this, the really smart ones then end up going to Barcelona or somewhere else in Europe. They tend to go as far as they can do in order to maximize their profits. However, this type of process happens very little with the guys in Sunee. Why? What is it about this area that keeps the boys there and not moving forward? (forward meaning to an area where they can make more money) Quote
firecat69 Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 You are right that it rarely happens. Perhaps because they know that BoyzTown boys look down on Sunee boys. Of course no reason for them to say they are from Sunee. Perhaps because they don't realize that things might be better in BoyzTown. Many boys have a low opinion of their looks and are not comfortable looking for another job and being rejected. Quote
Guest thaiworthy Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 Michael, you are comparing two different cultures, Brazil and Thailand. Unlike Rio, Thais are not motivated to move forward in consideration of what may happen tomorrow. They live for today. Also, if they move to another bar, they stay in the same neighborhood where their friends are. Quote
Guest anonone Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 Both firecat and thaworthy are correct. There is a very distinct line between BT and Sunee. I am sure there are an expecption or two who made the switch, but for the most part the guys at Sunee are not very comfortable in BT. Friends play a big part in which bar they are working at....it needs to be sanuk for them.... There is a practical side also. When one friend in a group does well, he treats the rest of the group. Or as my BF bluntly says "When Thai boy have a customer, everyone eats". There is money lending that goes on in the group, help when they get in trouble...of whatever kind. Most Thai have some time of support system like this...... Quote
Guest thaiworthy Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 I just asked the boyfriend this question about when he last worked in BT 12 years ago . I'm not sure many will like his answer. He said, "Sunee have many bad boy." Just his opinion, I guess. And probably things have changed by now. Quote
ceejay Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 I've hear the "Sunee have many bad boy" line as well. But then, the same guy asked me why I wanted to go to Cambodia and warned that they would kill me there! Quote
Guest xiandarkthorne Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 This is really interesting. When I saw Michael's post at first, I automatically assumed that it was because of insularity - a bit like my Italian friends, many of whom never move out of their hometowns from the moment they are born to the day they die. They go for holidays but home town is Numero Uno every time. In the past, I also simply assumed that Boyztown and Sunee catered to different markets and so there was less demand for slim, twinky boys in Boyztown. And vice versa. Silly me. Quote
Guest HeyGay Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 That easy if you notice BOYZTOWN BOYS are Gay boys who have been brought by friend and more professional, watch the way they dance with their arm-waving about, what I call the Pro dance? It use to be the snake dance to which I loved and only Thai boys can do it, One of the older boys of krazy Dragon, who use to live with me when he was 18 for many years, long story Lovely guy called Mr Yo use to teach it, ( give him 100 baht he will show you the best most sensual dance ever created ) But no More I'm afraid or very rarely do they do the snake dance, many just stand there looking bored, "boy looks bored customer bored also" the Bar owners use to say, how things have changed that would never be allowed years ago in the 80s The Sunee Boys are from the Isaan farm and don't like to go professial, as they don't Mix with the same sect of boy? I went to a Bar called Jet bar or something, the other night up stairs in Pattaya Soi 1 looking for nice swimmer type boy next door, what I saw was much the same Gay Pro Boys fem acting and only good as they were mildly Fem, compared to other Bars up that Soi apart from ToyBoys, BoyzTown, to wihich had a wonderful choice, If you want to see the number one Pro guys try ABOMB they have many mature man guys 23 and much older, who have been offering their wares for years, even though Dreamboys use to have very few Sunee boys but no longer open? Guest Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 In my experience, people working in Boystown gogo bars could well be sharing rooms with boys working in Sunnee bars. So their network of friends could well overlap. Also, there's a big overlap in terms of style of boys, so many of the Sunee boys should easily find work in some of the Boystown bars and vice versa. However, perhaps there's just not that much financial incentive to move from one to the other? After all, if the customers are prepared to move from one bar to another to find the right boy, why does the boy need to move? I'm not sure moving to Boystown increases a boys chances of getting offed. He could go from being the star boy in a small Sunnee bar to a much larger Boystown bar with lots of competition. Then some people prefer to off boys from Sunnee, due to cheaper off fees and drinks. Personally, I'm quit happy to pay (say) 10% more for the fine experience offered in a bar like Funny Boys, but not everyone reaches the same conclusion. Quote
TotallyOz Posted October 25, 2012 Author Posted October 25, 2012 I am not sure the off fees are less in Sunee now. Drinks are about the same in the gogo bars at 130-160 bath and off fees for the bars are 300-350 in Sunee. I say this only to say that I don't think the cost of the gogo bars in Sunee are less now. Maybe I am wrong but I just don't see it. I do think many good points were brought up. But, the truth is many tourists will not go to Sunee and there is money to be made there. Most expats will go to both areas but not the 1 and 2 week tourists. They may venture into most areas but they spend most of their time in Boyztown. Am I wrong? I do think Sunee has a bad reputation but I find the boys there just as sweet and amazing as other ones in Boyztown or beyond. However, they are a bit tougher for the most part and they don't take as much shit and they may be prone to fight a bit more. Quote

(forward meaning to an area where they can make more money) Many sunee boys dislike Boyztown for the same reason as farangs, it's not laid-back enough, there is more pressure to go off with customers, on talking to many waiters and boys in sunee they prefer to pick and choose and enjoy the bar lifestyle in sunee where you can chat to, have fun with friends with no problem from bar owners or mamasans, just compare that to working in say, Funny Boys or Toy Boys, BzBzBz where the regimes are far more strict. Also as i found when visiting recently and was surprised to find a boy who has worked sunee for a couple of years now at Oscars....reason...two of his best friends were already there, and that is why he moved. I have said for a long time before to him why does'nt he not move to Boyztown?...where there are more holidaying farangs with a bit of money and not only expats on a tight budget, he is only realising this now since he has made the move. Boy's friends and social circle seem to be just as important as earning money to many, apart from that the other obvious answer if you look at Samorn Bar, Good Boys, old Sawatdee Boys, Nice Boys and esp Mymic most of the boys who work these bars would definitely NOT have the necessary Thai ID and appropriate age to work in Boyztown. Just my own opinion as to why there is not much cross over in workers from sunee to boyztown. Quote
firecat69 Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 I disagree with your characterization of "most" . The overwhelming % of boys in Sunee are of age and have id. My guess is 15% could be questionable and in many cases the smaller kids just look younger because of their size. I have been surprised many times when verifying that some youngster was not only 18 but 20 when I was afraid he was 16. Also BoysTown now has many of the same young looking boys and once again I am quite sure most but not all would be 18. Quote

They may venture into most areas but they spend most of their time in Boyztown. Am I wrong? I know of quite a few people in the 1~ 2 week tourist category who go to both Sunee and Boystown. After all, that's enough time to make at least a couple of visits to every gay gogo bar in town. Quote
Guest anonone Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 When I was in full "tourist" mode (pre-BF), I really only went to BT for an occasional show. Vast majority of the time was spent in Sunnee Plaza. The same holds true now. In fact, we tried staying in BT hotel last trip, and found ourselves missing the Sunee vibe. The hotel was great (Ambiance), but we spent much more time in Sunnee. Next visit, we are back in Day Night. For me, Sunee seems more real...genuine...not sure how to put it. BT seems more like a stage...or Disneyland. Something that can be nice, but seems a little contrived. Quote
pong Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 1.this applies as such to many, if not most Thai workers 2.as many above allready point out, its also the friends&co and general atmosfere 3.another reason how Thai bosses keep their staff is not yet mentioned: many of their workers are in deep debt with them-wages paid advance and have to be paid off. BTW-Micheal last sept I did a Espana visit and also to that famous MAD sauna which has a load of Brasil boys working-and many more from about anywhere on earth-except Thai. TotallyOz 1 Quote
