Guest fountainhall Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 Two queries for the mods about the forum page. In the thread, The Britishisation of American English. There is clearly still a software problem. In post #4, Rogie’s quote has more than two dozen examples of this – and saying we’re good and OK &ndash . . . a new tendency to use British “ginger&rdquo Secondly, I notice against the photo in my profile the phrase “0 warning points”. I don’t see this against any other member photos. What does it mean? And what are warning points? Quote
TotallyOz Posted October 4, 2012 Author Posted October 4, 2012 I can answer 1 of the 2 for you. The issues in the quote are because he took that straight from another source and not from this site and it was unedited. Sometimes when you copy and paste quotes, they use html and therefore are a mess. I see this often and I use a simple text editor to paste into and then just copy and paste again to get all that markup out. It is not an issue with the software. It is an issue with the copy and paste. Quote
Bob Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 I might disagree a little there. For some reason, I've found that those goofy mistakes keep piling up every time you edit something (so, right or wrong, I've been blaming the editing software). Once it starts happening, it becomes exponential if you edit again. I quoted somebody in a post a week or two and edited only my words a couple of times.....and, yet, the mistakes showed up in the quoted text which I thought was strange as hell. (yea, yea, the answer is for me to post something correctly the first damn time!) Quote
mahjongguy Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 For Windows users the simplest way to rid text of invisible characters is to paste the text into Notepad, then copy it back out. Quote
Rogie Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 For Windows users the simplest way to rid text of invisible characters is to paste the text into Notepad, then copy it back out. Thanks. I had a similar idea and copied onto my Yahoo notepad, and from there pasted into a post. That was fine if youi leave it at that, but if for any reason you wish to edit the post, after you have edited the problem surfaces. The problem as i see it is the editing function. (see the thread in the Beer Bar re Britishisms, posts #17 and 19) Quote
bkkguy Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 It is not an issue with the software. It is an issue with the copy and paste. It IS NOT an issue with the copy and paste - at the OS level copy and paste should not modify the data it IS an issue with the forum software. if any web software takes user input from a form field and re-displays that input on a web page then it is up to that software to make sure the input is correctly sanitised and filtered and will display properly before outputing it - the user's use of copy and paste to place the text in the form field is just exposing a deficiency in the forum software bkkguy Quote
Guest Posted October 5, 2012 Posted October 5, 2012 I asked the developers about the editing issue and they said: Unfortunately this is a known issue in IP.Board 3.3.4 that is due to be resolved in the next update. I have manually patched this issue on your forum so it should work correctly again. For existing posts that show the issue, you will need to edit and re-save them (without changing anything) before they display correctly. Quote
Guest Posted October 5, 2012 Posted October 5, 2012 Secondly, I notice against the photo in my profile the phrase “0 warning points”. I don’t see this against any other member photos. What does it mean? And what are warning points? I see this for every person. It is used by Moderators to show issue with a user. I will try to get this removed from profiles so that everyone does not see this and it is only for Moderators. Quote

Perhaps Khun FH has a bit more board etiquette than moi. http://www.gaythaila...es/page__st__40 Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted October 5, 2012 Posted October 5, 2012 Sorry Khun TW - I had not registered your earlier comment about the issue. Quote
