ChristianPFC Posted June 11, 2013 Posted June 11, 2013 No joke. The sentence before was "motorsport", so I mean (motor)boat race. My concern is about noise and pollution (oil, exhaust fumes), so if you can contruct a motor that makes no noise and needs no oil or fuel, go on, you have my support! Sailing, on the other hand, is a laudable activity. Quote
Guest Posted June 11, 2013 Posted June 11, 2013 Sailing, on the other hand, is a laudable activity. Yes, except for the vast amounts of oil burned towing the boats behind vehicles & flying people in to watch the races. It's just another shade of grey. Quote
Guest Devint6669 Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 Around the Grand Palace? Then I won't be able to go there to look for street hookers any more! There is other place to go, if you need hooker like the web or some bar I think you will survive. Quote
Rogie Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 The F1 may be moved up-country, probably E-san. Now Phuket has entered the fray. Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 Now that the Thai government has finally seen some sense by banning racing around the cultural quarter of Bangkok, the mad scramble to find an alternative venue begins, especially by Red Bull which would get the most out of it (and no doubt help the founder's grandson as he tries to escape proper punishment for driving his Ferrari at 200kph along Sukhumvit at 5:00am with alcohol and cocaine in his system, killing a traffic cop and trying to get the blame pinned on the family driver - but then that's another story - isn't it?) But they will find none! The whole point of governments and the private sector pouring mega sums into night racing is to show off not just an F1 race but to promote the location. Either a promoter spends vast sums on a sexy purpose-built track (Abu Dhabi's cost US$1.332 billion), or it is located in an area that produces spectacular TV footage. The Singapore skyline is perfect. Hong Kong Island would be perfect, but will never happen because of the huge traffic disruption and the strict environment protection legislation. What of interest is there for the hundreds of millions of overseas viewers to see in Phuket at night? Absolutely nothing! Where would they hold it? In the Fantasea complex? Before the F1 idea took root, successive governments of both parties had promoted the ridiculous idea to bid for the 2020 World Expo, a veritable pipe dream of politicians without the slightest concept of the massive scale, huge cost and horrendous logistics of such a mega project. Yesterday it was announced the government had finally backed away from the project, although no word yet as to how much taxpayers money has to date been wasted on preparing the bid. The F1 race 'idea' for Thailand is destined for the same fate! It's cloud cuckoo land! http://en.espnf1.com/f1/motorsport/story/109939.html Quote
ChristianPFC Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 Whoever tries to get F1 to Thailand, I wish them failure! (A very rare sentiment of mine, but here it is appropriate.) Quote
