Guest rainwalker
Has anyone taken a motorcycle tour of the LOS? I don't mean jumping on a 125 cc putt-putt and heading out from Pattaya to the Sri Racha Tiger Zoo but getting on a serious motorcycle and heading out to explore for a week or so. I think I want to do that - I ride a 1200 cc cruiser-style bike in Canada - and think that a 500 and up size bike would do the trick here. Any advice on renting big bikes and any suggestions as to where to go? Or is a motorcycle tour company the way to go? Anyone else want to do it? Here are just a few m/c tour places: http://www.thaimotorcycletours.com/ http://www.asiantrails.net/index.cfm?menuid=251 http://www.ridethai.com/ I might actually prefer to post a picture of my penis, which I am told is quite magnificent (and as you might guess, I concur with that opinion) but, as that will get the board banned again, I'll just post a picture of my bike in Vancouver, which is equally striking, although smaller... Guest francois
Really, Rainwalker, I never knew you were so butch! There is a motorcycle group in Pattaya that takes long rides on big bikes but not so sure if they are homos. At one time there was a regular feature article about biking and tours in one of those free magazines in Pattaya. I believe the name of the magazine was PATTAYA or something like that. The writer, a farang, operated a motorcycle shop specializing in sales and servicing of big bikes like Harleys. Perhaps it is the shop on the road to Jomtien. Check it out. He did write that on a long tour one of their members had an unplanned "rendezvous" with Buddah. Do I want to join you and Buddah? No thanks. Guest rainwalker
Really, Rainwalker, I never knew you were so butch! I'm not.... From Hollywood Squares... Peter Marshall: Paul, why do Hell's Angels wear leather? Paul Lynde: Because chiffon wrinkles too easily. A quick story... Years ago, I took my Moto Guzzi 1000 convert (LAPD police model) on a 6 month 19 state, 5 province tour and on my return, was going out for lunch with my closest friend, also a gay man. It was noon and we were waiting for the light at the busiest corner on the major downtown pedestrian mall, surrounded by 25 or 30 office workers who had just poured out of the high rises in search of sustenance. I told my friend that there was only one thing that I hadn't accomplished on my tour and that was to visit Fire Island near NYC, accessible only by boat or plane and, then as now, a mecca for gay men on vacation. He asked why and I told him that Fire Island was car and motorcycle free and that they wouldn't let me and the Guzzi on the ferry. He turned, looked at me and said, in a loud voice " Well, they might not have let the motorcycle on the ferry but they sure let the fairy on the motorcycle" The folks in the crowd waiting with us for the light to change burst into guffaws, the light changed and we all moved off, temporarily bonded by laughter. I'm sure that the story was told around the water cooler a hundred times that afternoon....
Guest tdperhs
I'm headed for Pattaya in two weeks for a 24 day stay. I have a lot of paper work to do so I cannot go on long trips but I am definitely planning on spending a couple days in Rayong. I intend to travel by bike if I can rent something comparable to my VT-1100 Spirit. Reminds me, I want to get my Int'l license updated. Also, I want to get to a couple of local Wats. Guest gonefishing
Really, Rainwalker, I never knew you were so butch! There is a motorcycle group in Pattaya that takes long rides on big bikes but not so sure if they are homos. There are a number of motorbike groups in Pattaya, the largest of which is Burapha (Eastern Sharks) which is mainly Thai but with a few farang members. You are probably talking about the Jesters, which is a relatively small group of Harley riders (farangs and rich Thais); they are more interested in tours of Pattaya and the surrounding area. A number of anti-gay statements have been made by some of their members in the local press. You can rent big bikes here easily, but most will be limited by contract to the Pattaya area only and will be without full insurance, although you can get this yourself here. Bikes available along beach road are primarily Japanese sport / cruising / poser bikes (no tourers), with some Harleys available (at a price: 6,000 - 10,000 baht per day!) from the Harley shops in Jomtien. If you have not ridden a big bike on tour here before, try it and you will quickly realise why the leathers and helmet you are so keen on in Canada arejust not practical here! Guest Boxer
Bangkok Post Travel Section has carried a number of Bike Tours of Thailand on a weekly basis over the past few months with maps and places of interest. Friends and I used to do tours of Pattaya outer area weekly doing about 60 kms a day on our 120cc bikes, great fun including lots of off road stuff to places unheard of and down any track that looked used. You see so much this way.
