kokopelli Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Today, as I was stopped behind a school bus, I noticed most of the students were carrying backpacks which I assume were for carrying their books. Do any of you know who started that trend of backpack book bags? This is not a quiz. Well, it was I Koko and my brother Loco. Just after WWII my father, Poco, bought us small knapsacks from the Army & Navy Surplus Store and the rest is history plus math, English, geography, etc. Does anyone have any other recollection on this trend based on personal experience? Rogie Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Poco + ? = Koko + Loco I'm not quite clear what kind of backpack it was you saw Koko. Is it similar to that commonly used these days shaped like a small version of the rucksacks backpackers favour? Maybe 20 Litre capacity or so, made of synthetic fabric. During Rogie's schooldays the schoolboys used a satchel made out of leather which was worn like a backpack with a strap over each shoulder. I suppose it could be carried but was designed to be worn on the back. Quote
kokopelli Posted September 12, 2012 Author Posted September 12, 2012 The backpack was small, brown canvas like below to be worn as a back pack; the other kids back them carried some sort of sissy satchel in their hands. Poco + Yoko-Oco = Koko + Loco Quote
