daddydawg Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 A good idea for American expats and travelers... The Department of State encourages U.S. citizens living overseas or planning to travel abroad to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program. http://travel.state.gov/ Quote
Rogie Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 In the UK, before my last trip to Thaland I registered with the FCO (Foreign and Commonwealth Office) 'LOCATE' programme. http://www.fco.gov.uk/en/travel-and-living-abroad/staying-safe/Locate/ Smart Traveler looks similar. Quote
Bob Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 Those Americans in the Chiangmai area can register online via the US Consulate website and others elsewhere in Thailand can register via the US Embassy website. Easy to register. There are two purposes for the registration. First, you provide contact information to the embassy so they can contact you if needed or contact somebody you designate if you end up in an emergency situation. Second, it allows the embassy to send you an email providing warnings about topical events (such as their recommendations to stay away from a given protest area or whatever). Quote
