Guest fountainhall Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 On my last few visits to Chiang Mai, I have aways gone to one masseur at The 2 Brothers and aways enjoyed the experience. Sadly he has now left but friends who were here in January hugely recommended one newish masseur. So this afternoon I called the number and asked for Khun . . . I could be there in 20 minutes. Was he free? Yes, I was told - then a slight pause - but could I make it 30 minutes? Clearly Khun . . . was not there but would be quickly summoned. I arrived at the appointed hour, took off my shoes and had my feet washed. "You want Khun . . .?" Yes, I booked him, I explained. "Oh sorry, he had to go back to his village for the week-end!" Whereupon I was offered all sorts of other delights, but I just walked out. I don't like being so obviously conned. I then walked over to Mystic Orient, admittedly with some misgivings having had a poorish massage there some years ago on my only previous visit. But time passes and things change. Also it is relatively close and I was running out of time. The mamasan asked what I wished in terms of massage and afters. I explained. He recommended one masseur who had great massage skills and, though basically of one persuasion, was "both" when it came to customers' desires. I double-checked - 'both?" "Yes", was the reply. So I chose him for a 90-minute cream massage, mainly because all the others present in late afternoon had moustaches in their pictures and I am not a fan of facial hair. Well, should I have been surprised that my guy also had a moustache?! But by then I was running out of time, and really wanted a good massage and some relaxation. To say the guy was a dud would be unfair, but he was only a notch or two above that. He knew precious little about what a good massage is, and when it came to afters, what I wished was a definite no-no. So I cut everything short, showered, had a quiet talk with the mamasan who insisted he had never said "both" - indeed, he would never have dreamed of saying so (!) - and then disappeared. Having requested that the cashier look at his watch and note that my 90 minutes was over in less than 60, at least he refunded the extra 30 minutes I had not had the benefit of. I have had far more of this sort of mai pan rai treatment in Chiang Mai than in Bangkok. I wonder if it is quite common - and is there is a reason for it? Quote
Guest Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 I have had far more of this sort of mai pan rai treatment in Chiang Mai than in Bangkok. I wonder if it is quite common - and is there is a reason for it? On my one & only visit to Chiang Mai, I booked a 1.5 hour massage at the former Lavender Lanna hotel. The clock was already set at the finish time when I entered & they rushed through the whole procedure in 30 minutes. On the other hand, the experience at Be beez(?) was superb. Unfortunately, I think they have closed too. Quote
kokopelli Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 Your experience did make me laugh FH. I suppose we have all had something similar. Although one time, not in CM, I booked a two hour massage which was wonderful and satisfied all my physical needs and still 30 minutes left on the clock. I was ready to leave but the masseur said "you have 30 minutes more" ! Money well spent. Quote
TotallyOz Posted April 28, 2012 Posted April 28, 2012 I enjoyed reading this FH. Thank you. We all have had similar. I have always really enjoyed the massages in Chiang Mai but not for the massage but more for the sex. That said, no place IMHO does it as good as the massage places in Bangkok! They are the best. So, as you are from that fine city, you may have higher standards than most. For me, just a quick pat and poke after a long day sometimes is all I need. Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted April 28, 2012 Posted April 28, 2012 Odd how things work out! After dinner with friends yesterday evening we went to what I believe is a newish bar Yokka Dok. And guess who was working there? My old masseur from 2 Brothers! Chiang Mai really is quite a small village in some respects. Quote

You have not finished the story about you and your old masseur...after dinner, of course. tj Quote

I have it on good authority (being my own eyes) that they proceeded to pray and make merit at one of the local temples. On the other hand, I lie a lot. Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted April 28, 2012 Posted April 28, 2012 You have not finished the story about you and your old masseur Nor shall I ! A veil needs to be brought down on some activities and the imagination given a chance I have it on good authority (being my own eyes) that they proceeded to pray and make merit at one of the local temples Bob was indeed on hand, although I noticed his eyes did sometimes wander in other directions . As for the making merit, that's as good a description as I'll come up with! Massage part 2 On a first-hand recommendation, this afternoon I headed near the Holiday inn Hotel to the intriguingly named One-2-Come. The mamasan was very direct and to the point, leaving nothing to guesswork or the imagination. The boys on duty at that time were all cute, and I chose one of the smallest from Chiang Rai, his massage skills having been assured. This time, the mamasan was spot on. Despite his size, the guy's massage was one of the best I have had for a long time. He knew exactly what he was doing and made sure I was enjoying it. As for afters, well, I'm afraid that pesky veil has suddenly come down again But I left a happy bunny! Quote
