What is it about Ladyboys that so many on gay boards in Thailand don't like?

Instead of continuing posting replies in another thread that was not about ladyboys, I decided to start a new one.

 

I am curious why so many do not seem to welcome ladyboys as part of the gay scene in Thailand?

 

I realize that many have preferences to MAN guys in Thailand. In all honesty, I prefer the Alpha males as well. But, I don't have a problem with ladyboys or seeing photos of them. I don't really like fem boys but I have no problem with them either.

 

What is it about ladyboys that cause people to have such heated discussions?

Why should a gay male be interested in someone with breasts? I've never understood that, or even why it is assumed we should have such an interest.

 

Actually, I don't actually mind ladyboys at all.

It's just I'd rather they didn't keep pushing into the boy bars & gay websites & imposing themselves on the customers, as many of those customers are really interested in men. Thankfully such problems are rare.

Michael, you have a tolerant nature that sometimes prohibits you from seeing a more narrow perspective. Ask a straight guy how he feels about gay sex, and many will express disgust. With that in mind, it is not surprising that so many gay guys feel some level of disgust as well, but not necessarily with women or even straight sex, but with effeminate men.

 

In my opinion, it is somewhat disconcerting to see a handsome guy with breasts and feminine traits. Someone else may see something else. There is so much in this world that is dominated by male/female dynamics and so little credence given to male/male lifestyles. The greatly heralded spectacle that is feminine beauty permeates our culture incessantly. From little miss teen to beauty queen, society quite enjoys this pageantry. Glamor and fashion too, are all classic hallmarks of femininity be they women or ladyboys. and It abounds everywhere, nonstop.

 

Now slap that onto a male, complete with breasts and high heels, throw it half-naked in front of me repeatedly, and you have the cream of disgust flaunted across the threads here at gaythailand.com. True, I don't have to look at it, but you did ask.

 

There should be some places, even virtual ones, where I can be spared this constant world-wide barrage of feminine profiles now so ungraciously displayed here onto men. For those that enjoy it fine, but in my own little corner of the globe, I would like just a few places to go where I can be spared and enjoy the discussions and photos of like-minded people.

 

Personally I have nothing against ladyboys or women, they are my greatest spectators. i just don't like the suggestive photos or to have it flaunted any more than a straight guy would of gay sex.

I'd call that a preference and, while I don't hate ladyboys at all, they sure are not my preference. Unfortunately, over the years - from Bangkok to Pattaya to Phuket to Chiangmai - my early experiences with ladyboys weren't very positive. Typicallly they were the pushy/screechy mamasans at the first few Thai gay bars I ever patronized. The worst fights (only a few) I've seen in Thailand have been between ladyboys. And then, of course, there are the ladyboy lip synchers in the bar shows who simply make me shudder and inherently compel me to beat the world's speed record running for the exit.

 

So, other than my normal preference (where I got that, hell if I know - maybe it came in a box of Post Toasties), I'm fairly sure that these early experiences in Thai gay bars probably had something to do why I somewhat avoid ladyboys.

I suspect every poster on this thread will say something like "I have nothing against ladyboys per se." I wont, but only because I already said it in the other threads. Heck, I've even fondled one in a bar near Soi Nana, and she was 'fun' to be with - a great deal more fun than many of the guys in Soi Twilight, I might add!

 

And whilst I agree with Bob, I think comparing the older mamasans and wind-up dolls who lipsync with the gorgeous gals one sees in the lb bars is a bit unfair.

 

Michael is correct. They are part of the gay scene and have their place on any gay Board. I also have no objection at all to the odd photo (oops, better change that to 'occasional' photo ) being posted on any non-lb site.

 

But I do stress "occasional". Let's face it. There is posting - and there is flooding! And when it is a case of hundreds of pics of a few ladyboys from one bar being posted as seems to be the case on the ladyboy sites, that is flooding on any other site. Indeed, since there are, it seems, plenty of ladyboy sites, why should gaythailand.com put up with 420+ pics of the same 20 or so lbs from just one bar (sorry, but I think it is important it remember the facts). Why not post them on one or all of the specialist lb sites where all who admire lbs can see them?

 

Lbs are as much part of the gay scene as muscleboys, twinks, fem boys, man boys and so on. I am sure there are sites for each 'speciality'. And these sites are precisely where the main topics regarding these 'specialities' should mostly be discussed. As for general sites like this, discussions and occasional photos have a place. But not, in my view, to the extent where threads are flooded with photos and virtually no discussion. This is, after all, a Message Board.

As I see it, large quantities of photos that fit with the core interests of the board are OK.

 

Small quantities of photos that are outside the core interests of the board are OK too, but anyone repetitively posting large quantities of female or ladyboy photos might find members are losing interest.

 

Ultimately, the internet supports diversity with gay, ladyboy and straight sites. So if a business wants to post ladyboy pictures every day, there are sites that cater for that.

well, this is sadly one aspect where living -when in BKK- out of that Silom clone-zone, has its disadavantge. Never mind that inquisitive, not that pretty LB in the local 7 (have choice of about 20+ se-hwens closeby) who is till trying to find out my country by using every imaginable Eurpopean language. It is the evening and late night most obnoxious, never ever taking a firm NO as an answer, chasing after any white male, long-fingered, high-pitched, shady as hell, pickpocket lookalike LBs around in my area. Plus the batches of far too young 15/16 yr old ditto's in the making, that approach you like a gangster hold-up. All enough to let start that same oso bad discrimination if one walks in shady areas in western cities. Spotting a LB gets too much associated with trouble-theft-screaming impolite voices-etc.

And never mind the morning after (yes, I get up pretty early-friend has also to tet up and be in class by 8.00) when those not rented out are still chasing after the few left over drunk farang.

There are pretty sights too; in the local matayom there is batch of pubescent ditto's in the making- a large group of 20+ or so, with cuddly pink bears on their backpacks etc. The smart, witty and always very welcoming older one, who I see around-at yet another new and better paying position in some restrt or the like.

Now that you post this and I start thinking- funny that they only seem to work like mamasan etc in the gogo's aimed at farangs-you never hit them in the local Thai massageshops.

I do not have a sexual attraction to Lady Boys, but I am very curious how they fit into Thai society. I am not at all an expert in Thai matters, but I am inquisitive and learn more with each visit.

 

I was in a gogo with my BF awhile back and he asked a guy to sit with us for a bit. (I prefer a fem boy, my BF prefers manly...glad that works out for us ). Anyway, this guy was fairly masculine. Not really what I would call an Alpha male, but not at all sissy. My BF noticed something about his nipples and knew that this boy had taken hormones in his past. The boy confirmed it and they chatted on a bit about it.

 

I don't totally understand if this is an experimental thing, if when young they equated gay feelings with femine characteristics, or whatever. It is just something I haven't been able to understand.

 

BF often chats with the ladyboy mamasans, if they are not the aggressive type. He seems to really enjoy talking with them, they laugh and can talk for a long time. BF also really enjoys the LB performers, a lot. I ended up taking him to one of the shows (Alcazar maybe...it has been awhile). He had a great time, posed for pictures with all the "stars" and so on. He intently watches the ladyboys while on stage at WWB, and video tapes them as well. I don't understand the infatuation with it, but I don't have to. He is happy, I am happy (thank god for the sexy backup dancers)

 

Once, I asked the BF if he wanted to go into Obsessions (this was just after that post), but he had no desire at all to go into there. Also kind of gave me the "crazy falang" look that I have come to love. No idea why he likes chatting with them in the gay bar and wathcing them on stage, but doesn't want to be in a LB bar.

 

After all this rambling, I gues the bottom line is I have no animosity toward LBs and would not care if there were threads discussing them or photos posted. Just as I have no animostiy toward muscle / masculine guys and tolerate seeing pictures of them as well.

At one go-go club a LB waiter does sit and chat me up; hard to believe he was once a boy who I entertained in my room. On the other hand the bf does seem to like them, but he is a straight arrow. Anyone remember Straight Arrow?

Well, I have an opinion on this, but I'm just not sure what it is! (there, that's a help, isn't it?) I am sometimes attracted to femme boys because they are just that - men with effeminate traits. On the other hand, I see ladyboys as being, or trying to be, feminine, which is not the same thing at all. I suspect that is where the problem some people may have lies. It's interesting in this context that a good proportion of the frequeenters of LB bars self-classify as straight.

Sorry, I totally failed to answer Michaels opening question with the first reply.

 

1 What I dislike about ladyboys most is entering a BOY bar and having an uninvited pushy ladyboy sit down next to me, asking if I like ladyboys, whilst being reluctant to go away. Thankfully this doesn't happen very often.

 

2 The second thing I dislike is the screechy voices spoiling the ambience, in a boy bar.

 

I wouldn't mind a few ladyboys in a boy bar if they quietly stayed on the stage like the boys, waiting for an invite or other signal. Although it's probably better if most boy bars don't have ladyboys.

 

Also, of course neither of my objections would be valid if I chose to walk into a ladyboy bar. That's not happened yet, but never say never.

I'm not surprised by the low interest in Ladyboys. After all they have lots of the characteristics of females, so anyone who gay, rather than bi, should find the female characteristics less appealing.

Yes, they may well be gay, or at least most of them. I doubt that 100% would be gay.

However, that's not the same as automatically assuming that most gay males will be interested in ladyboys. After all, even if they have a dick, if they also look female & act female. So for some of us a lot of the attractive characteristics are no longer present.

 

As far as I'm concerned, people are quite welcome to become ladyboys. We should not automatically assume they will attract the same set of admirers after the change.

LBs have a place on any gay site, in my view. And whilst the present poll (like almost all such polls) may be unscientific, it surely does illustrate trends. And the trend on this Board is very clearly that very few members are interested in LBs.
