Damn good question, do any members have experience of gay life in Indonesia? Or links to good websites?

[We can always rename the sub forum Indonesia & Bali, if there's enough material to discuss].

strangely I now see that this branch is even only named Bali-and not Indo.

Forget websites and all that-for the major part. Indo is a very gay-friendly place-except for a few religion-caretakers-infested areas, on 1 major condition; Bisa Bahasa (=can speak the lingo), which is as such infinitely less difficult as it is to learn Thai.

Because travel to all those isles is so time-consuming etc (though cheap+fairly unsafe flights abound by now-again forget online- do when there-agents know all the tricks), Java is as main island the best taken as first. Big capital Jakarta-a hellish town as such, but lots under the surface. Yogya and esp. Bandung- whole rows of m2m massageshops+more. Behind the submarine ''statue'' in Surabaya, close by Gubeng tren stasyun, the padang in MAlang, and so much more.

All towns have night markets, food etc, go there after dusk and just look lost- helpful youngmen will appear in minutes, if not seconds.

In uni-towns-go for the indekos areas (where students live in cheap rooms), just ask around.

Borobudur is one site I have always thought about visiting. Have you been, pong? Is it as impressive as the main Angkor Wat temple? And is there any reasonably good accommodation nearby? It seems to be close to Yogyakarta and I guess that would be the best base for finding some entertainment.

I will go to Malang, Solo, Yogya, Borobudur in a couple fo weeks, so then I can report, Fountain ;-)

I've been to Angkor, but judging from pictures Borobudur is rather different. I shall see....

maaf mas, (=sporry , friend), see this only now.

Of course have been-its about 60 kms from Yogya and floats of tourist and rundown local buses link the 2. Of course there are low-budget, mid-class and the few odd hi-0class HTls neraby, but note that Hi-class HTls in Indo tend to cost far more as in TH. Midclass is quite Ok for most. AA flies now (via KUL-hub) to both Solo and Yogya. Yogya airport is now on the tren=kereta api between the 2.

Brbdr is just 1 fairly big clump of stone-with all those everywhere the same carvings and statues etc. but is THE most well-known and important Indo monument. Besieged by Indo schoolclasses from anywhere and also hordes of tourists. Thus it is indeed a wise idea to stay over and visit it as soon as it opens-at 6.00 by crack of dawn. IF you were impressed by Angkor and Bagan-expect a downgrade, as its indeed not more as 1 clump, in a sea of tourist bisnis. Between Yogya and Solo-and quite near to YOG airpt-is another cluster of old style Hindu temples-named Prambanan-it is more subdued and has a little more of the Angkor feeling.

@anddy: try the evenings on the open field in Malang, just talk-the boys will find you. Yogya iis THE best known gay town in Indo. Also Bandung is famous for its men-only massages.
