This guy is SEXY! The music is HOT! Here is 27-yr old Jin Akanishi in his one and only music video "Sun Burns Down" (at least that's available on i-tunes) with a fast-paced Mission Impossible theme. Very exciting, very commercial and well-produced. I like the song and the video which is now #7 in the iTunes MV charts. He has sort of a punk, "bad-boy" character that I really like. Forget Korea, this Japanese idol is really going places.

It has recently been announced that Akanishi will star in the Hollywood film "47 Ronin" which also stars Keanu Reeves in the lead role. Akanishi will play the role of Chikara Oishi, a friend to Kai who is played by Reeves. The film's director, Carl Erik Rinsch, was apparently impressed by Akanishi's English abilities and motivation. In this case Akanishi Jin would be the second Johnny's Entertainment artist within the agency afterNinomiya Kazunari in Letters From Iwo Jima to star in a Hollywood movie and the third overal to work with an American director. Tegoshi Yuyafrom NEWS was the second in Memoirs of a Teenage Amnesiac but that movie is considered to be a Japanese production directed by Hans Canosa.

He starts his US Tour in March.

Down, Fountainhall, DOWN!

Don't ask the impossible!! :p But I like the photo better than the VDO!

I have always liked most of the Japanese pop singers and TV stars. It's only with the rise of stars like Rain and the Korean boy-band groups that a number of Koreans have taken my fancy, as it were! I find it odd that when I was going regularly to Korea, I rarely saw guys like the present younger generation in Seoul's bars and clubs. Either I was not going to the right ones, or Koreans now take a great deal more time with their looks and dress.

Going slightly off topic and lowering the tone somewhat, many of the guys in Japanese porn movies are just drop dead gorgeous (although it's a pity that Japanese convention seems to demand that they 'perform' rather like robots). But I rarely see any Korean gay porn movies around. Never thought about that before.

Another downside, due to legal requirements Japanese porn movies for the domestic market have pixellation of the genitals. Or so people tell me...... <_<. Perhaps export versions of these might sell well.

I always understood the pixillation was due to a law against showing pubic hair, and that this was enacted because, for some odd reason, such display is regarded as offensive to Japanese sensibilities. This would explain why pixillation is generally not used when the camera does an extreme close-up on, shall we say, a hairy nether region! Yet, I understand that particular law was got rid of in the 1990s. Perhaps that's one reason why the degree of pixilation has diminished very considerably since then. It may be frustrating, but it's not that difficult to make almost everything out now. Some studios make unpixillated versions for overseas sale, but very few. And some internet sites are pixel free.

What I do find very strange is that an acceptance of total nudity has always been a part of Japanese culture. Even up to the 1970s, most Japanese used to go to pubic baths. And today in saunas, in segregated hot springs and the few public baths that remain, boys and men will walk around quite freely - unlike the Thais who do so with hands covering certain parts.

I suspect it is just another of the many contradictions in Japanese society. Living virtually on top of each other in most of the country, your tiny apartment may expose you to sounds of love-making from your neighbours, but you are brought up virtually from birth to block out what you do not want to know. So although you 'hear' what's happening, you don't 'hear' it! It's rather the same as when you ride on the packed subway and see men of many ages reading pornographic comic manga. The book with it's explicit images is open right next to you. But in your mind you do not 'notice' it!

So I wonder if by not 'seeing' the detail in full, you are not 'seeing' it and therefore not being corrupted, as it were, by it? Just a thought which I hope may draw some comments.

Looking at a few question/answer websites, it's amazing some of the reasons thrown out by posters. Here are some examples -

"it's illegal to show genitalia penetration in japan.. that's why they come out with tentacle penetration"

"If I'm going to watch porn I want to see everything. Otherwise I'll just turn on Oprah or Judge Judy."

"they dont want you to know japanese men are as small as small boys" :o

To that last comment I can say from experience - it ain't always true :p

This thread has had only 3 replies but over 730 views in less than 2 days. Is this normal? What accounts for viewership? Is this a particularly interesting subject for many people? I don't understand it. It's not even one page yet. Must be a software bug. Well, at least it hasn't been locked yet. But it's still early, despite the innocuous discussions (none) of Japanese pop stars.

The turn must have occurred once Fountainhall brought on Japanese porno vids. FH, you do have a knack for kicking it up a notch. Rock on dude. and let's keep the numbers rising. I'm all set for some headless, pixelated Japanese torsos, to foil the tireless new plans of the Internet police.

Threads dealing with nightlife, sex etc. generally have higher readerships. But there is nothing in the title to give even a hint of that. So my lowering the tone can have little to do with the high readership, which I also find very interesting.

Perhaps it is either that we have a large silent Japanese readership ("konichiwa!" - I want to know more about you!)), or there is a large number of readers who know the pop star, or - dare I say - more likely, the singer's name sounds like the title of a porno movie ;)

I am not very internet savvy, but mebbe there are search engines (like web-robots or something) that are automatically programmed to find this name, even if it is on a gay web board. It has to be something like that. I am sure there are better minds on the subject that can mine.

Interesting thought. I googled "Jin Akanishi" just now. Nothing in the first ten pages. I then googled "Jin Akanishi gay". Way up there at entry No. 8 is thaiworthy's thread!

Seems there is a lot of on-line discussion about "is-he-or-isn't-he?" But the gossips come out with that sort of game with every Asian pop star with a cute face.

When I lived in Japan, I virtually lusted after the young actor Oda Yuji! There were then rumblings that "he might be" and these eventually grew into a torrent. But I see in a blog two years ago, there is an almost indignant heading -

"Yuji Oda gets married, to a lady!"

followed by

She is 12 years junior to him and a “regular citizen,” which means that they won’t reveal her identity. I believe that his new movie is coming up, and this is an important period for his career, so his agency put a lot of pressure on him and even arranged this marriage. Ken Hirai (a popular singer, who is rumored to be Oda’s ex) must be crying now.

When the massive hit series Tokyo Love Story was on TV, his face was on huge billboards at all the major subway stations. There are a few glimpses of him at the start of this clip of the opening credits.

Thought: if Scooby wants to show potential advertisers impressive readership statistics, obviously all he needs is a series of threads on Japanese and Korean pop stars :o

FH, I think you're on to something. Can we get a commission?

Most of the Japanese material still seems to be pixellated, so that must still be a legal requirement. The obvious thing to do is sell pixellated material domestically, then have all the export material non-pixellated AND host an offshore download site for non pixellated versions. That's guaranteed to increase turnover.

My feeling is that Japanese producers don't give a damn about an export market. They are making far too much money and churning out so many dvds in the domestic market where the latest ones sell for up to ¥13,000 (US$170) per copy.

Besides, I think the rather formal formula of Japanese gay dvds is slightly less attractive to most westerners than, for example, similar Thai material. So, since they appeal to a smallish niche market, they might not be attractive to overseas distributors. The producers' view is probably, "why bother?"

japanboyz.com has uncensored material, but it is a paid site.

As the pixelation must be added in afterwards, creating an "export" version requires almost no extra effort. Just use the original material.

Then the overseas version can be sold to both gaijiin and Japanese, via appropriate outlets.

I wonder if you know of this site z909? (Click on Gallery - and increase the size of the page)

http://www.tohyoh.com/index1.html

It is hardly likely to be up your street if you want total nudity, but the photo images are artistic and, in some cases, erotic. Tohyoh was a photographer who was asked by friends to take nude photos of them. He amassed quite a collection which he put on the internet with large 'clear' copies available for sale. I like many of the images, despite the fact you can not see everything and can not download them. Sadly Tohyoh died in 2006 of a brian haemorrhage aged 56.

You might find these of interest -

2005 - MD

2003 - OKA

2002 - KZM and the one with the Kanji character

2001 PP (this model had his own site for a while - sadly no more)

Hello all.

I must say I believe the amount of views this particular thread has gotten is not by bots.

Jin has lots of fans (myself included) and I actually got to this thread via twitter.

Despite his bad boy image, the reason I like him is his determination to overcome obstacles and his talent as a musician... And also the dude is hot, lol

Love his androginous beauty. His face is exquisite.

I also love the fact that, for example, he didn't get offended when somebody asked him is he was gay in a fanmeeting. He said he wasn't, but he didn't have anything against it either.

Oh, forgot to add he actually got married to a japanese actress named Meisa and they're already expecting their first child.

As a fan, I know his ultimate wish is to have a family of his own and have lots of kids, so I'm proud to know his wishes will be granted.

He's even more cool now in my eyes.
