The Value - or otherwise - of Blogs

Recommended Posts

Posted

Blogs can supply useful information to the reader for many subject areas. These might include travel, lifestyle issues, environmental, gardening, DIY, Investment etc.

Some blogs are written just for entertainment & do that well too.

So for the reader who is prepared to search for relevant blogs, there is a lot of value to be had in reading them.

However, for non-gay issues, if I'm looking for ideas, data or other peoples experience to solve a particular problem, google directs me to forums much more often than blogs.

Am I the only one that has difficulty is following or understanding what rhodochrosite is posting and what the links are about? Many of his posts are very pongesque. I am not being impudent but just trying to figure it out.

Heading for 5000 Hits......

If I were you, I wouldn't get too excited by the so-called number of hits. For example only, I visit that site once or more every day and click on your posts so as to clear them away (sorry, other than the first few posts, I didn't read any more as I simply am not interested in the lurid details or following anybody's pre-vacation life, daily vacation life, or post-vacation life).

While I have no problem at all with what your doing, I'm a bit surprised that the owner of the site let's you use his site for essentially your private blog. But that's Oogie's problem/benefit as far as I'm concerned as it's not my website.

Oftentimes, as I've noted here and elsewhere over the years, I often wonder more about the motivations behind postings rather than the substance of the postings themselves. You obviously strongly feel that others want to know what you do and how you react to various people and events whereas I wouldn't write that kind of stuff about my life (or prior vacations) here in Thailand even if somebody paid me to do it. I don't even share some of that information with close friends.

I've made similar comments to poster Dodger (at SWD) in the past as I was curious as to what motivated him to keep advising the world of the details of his vacation life with his bf. He, like you, is a very decent guy but I simply don't understand what it is that you guys get off on telling the various stories about boyfriends, boys you off, or whatever. I do recognize it really doesn't matter if I do or don't ever understand the motivations involved; regardless, I find that issue to be the interesting angle for me.

A Bit Of Fun!!!

For who?

I have to agree with Bob. I too click on that thread just to clear it away. I am all for self-expression, but it is just all so repetitive. Sadly, some aspects of GayTingTong have allowed for this type of runaway rambling for the entertainment of only one, the poster himself. I can find no redeeming aspect to this subject except for the gleeful glory and self-approbation of its author-- for chronicling every minute detail of one's vacation in day-by-day agonizing "prose," written in a style that contains more emoticons than actual words. This isn't even a blog. It is delirium.

Hmmmm.. As mentioned before very "pongesque". But respect your right and energy and devotion to post whatever it is that you are posting.

I thought I was missing something, but guess I am not, or am I?

It does? Guess I learn something new every day. But, to be honest, I'm not going to go looking for it as I really don't want to read somebody else's diary. I somewhat feel like a voyeur whenever I've done that before.

I will give you an "A" for a positive attitude. That's refreshing these days. Take care.

Rhodo, mimicry is the sincerest form of flattery. But that was ages ago. It just goes on and on and on. It isn't a diary, Bob. More like a dairy. Because he just milks it for all it's worth.

Yes, Rhodo, you do have a positive attitude. Good luck with it.

As I said on the first post, I generally don't read blogs. I will dip in from time to time, especially if I find one that has some special information - comeback, shameless mack, PLEASE!! But I defend everyone's right to start and keep one going, however intelligible or not, and whatever the subject matter, as long as it is within the law. No-one has to read it, after all.

Sorry I never read GayTingTong and so have not seen rhodochrosite's blog. From the items posted above, there are some cute photos. But I also think one or two would be close to breaching this Board's posting rules if they were posted directly on this thread. That apart, enjoy your time in Thailand, rhodochrosite.

This has not happened to me before!! I am trying to edit my post above. I click 'edit', but each time it seems to open a new post!!

MILK??? Never touch the stuff! A large vodka martini will calm the nerves. A couple will make them nicely disappear in a sleepy stupor ;)

Ok, Rhodo, you've got your defacto blog over at Ting Tong and there's no need to post that stuff over here. I might be a minority of one but I don't want to know or hear about your exploits, how much you pay for them, what their names are, how many you have at a time, or whatever.

When I was much younger....like 40 years ago....I and friends would read the forum columns in Playboy, Penthouse, and I think even the Hustler magazine and we used to just howl as to what we believed were made-up stories. Not that I care but I, for one, don't buy your stories as anything other than good imagination (although it doesn't work for me whether true or not true).

What gets me is that he brags, apologizes for bragging, then brags again-- all in the same post. Rhodo, if your intention is to impress me, I'm sorry, but I'm not impressed. Please don't carry on your tawdry Ting-Tong tales over here.

Bob, I think you just offended Hustler Magazine!
