MrBill Posted January 22, 2012 Posted January 22, 2012 It's been almost 4 years since my last trip to LOS due to my caretaking responsibilities for 2 elderly family members. Those duties finally ended last week. I want to plan a trip to come b4 the end of the year. In the past I've come during Songkran, Loi Krathong, The King's birthday, and (global) New Year. I was thinking about visiting around my birthday, end of July through early August, but I'm not sure of the advisability. I think I still have some scorched body parts from Songkran heat. From what I found on the Internet, July/August is somewhat rainy season, but what does that mean in real terms? Are bars and beaches empty? Will I melt like the Wicked Witch of the West? Extreme heat & humidity take their toll on me. Any advice about travel that time of the year would be appreciated. Thanks in advance! Quote

I have only visited Thailand once during July / August and do not recall any problems with the weather. Obviously you are aware you are not going to get lovely sunny days and cool nights so provided your expectations are realistic in that regard you will be able to enjoy the non-weather-related aspects just as much as at any other time of the year. For tourists travelling from the UK, July and August coincide with the school summer holidays and flights tend to be more expensive. Maybe that happens in N.America too. Hopefully that will not be a big factor in your decision-making but I mention it just in case. Quote

Guest fountainhall Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 July/August is the rainy season, but far from the worst part of it. Expect some short monsoon rain showers during the days, but also lots of sunny weather. The rain tends to keep the temperature down a little. I expect there will be lots of people still on the beaches. Quote

I come to Pattaya every summer - June-August as well as winter - Dec-Feb. The advantage to the summer months is smaller crowds. No problem getting a beach chair with a lot less overly loud neighbors. The bars are quiet- but I seldom go to the bars. The one difference is that during the summer months I have to close my windows when I go out and when I go to bed at night. The rains can come on suddenly and they can be strong downpours but they seldom last more than 1 hour. Except for a few weeks during the winter when we get some cool weather, I find little difference between summer and winter weather - always 30-32 degrees- except for one being dry and the other being wet. July and August are not the scorchers you experienced during Songkran. Quote

Moses Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 Are there many Russians in the summer months? I would think they'd come mostly in winter. Peak time for Russians: 28 Dec - 14 Jan (winter holidays) 20 Jan - 05 Feb (student's holidays) 20 Mar - 01 Apr (spring holidays in school) 01 May - 11 May (spring holidays) 2 weeks of vacations at work Russians usually use at summer (June - 20%, July - 30%, August - 50%), other 2 weeks usually split 1+1 (1 at spring + 1 at autumn) 28 Oct - 10 Nov - (autumn holidays in schools) Quote

Thanks to all who replied. I'm looking at a mid-to-end of July 2 week trip (all the time I can get from work). CO shows a 120k mile award for first/biz class As for being a big baby... my mom said 6 lbs 9 oz. If she were alive today, I'm sure she'd say I am a bigger baby now Quote
