Hard of hearing on Phones

Recommended Posts

Posted

I have had this problem for quite a few years now. Especially when a stranger phones me, I sort of go into panic mode and can hardly hear a word he is saying.

Even with friends I often have to say "please repeat that" or, I could't quite get what you just said.

Of course I have the volume turned to maximum, and quite often I can hear better if I turn or press the phone closer to my ears. My phone is quite old and simple, but it still works!

Does anyone else have this problem. Do earphones or other portable devices help, or do I have to say goodbye to my poor old ears?

Any comments and advice on this matter would be appreciated

Some phones seem to have that problem and some don't. When you are buying a phone, before you make the actual purchase and before money exchanges hands, ask to test the phone first.

If you already have a phone, then the only thing I can think of would be to take it to one of the repair shops in a place like Tuk Com and see if they can either make adjustments or put in different speakers.

Check with an Audiologist (not the one at BPH) and see what your response levels look like.

Sounds like a good idea, At least one does't have to feel queeezy about such a test.
