Guest fountainhall Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 given her outstanding success with "For Fun" I would not be holding my breath! This is a follow-on from comments made in the "Silom Complex Closure - Bargains Galore!" thread by bkkguy, specifically about the old Rome Club site on Soi 4. A poster on GB’s forum had indicated the site was under renovation. That comment is inaccurate. Not being a regular in Soi 4, I looked in last night around 11pm with some friends and noticed no renovation whatever, As bkkguy points out, a restaurant/bar with ‘live’ music named “For Fun” occupies that site. If it’s new, it must surely already be dying on its feet. In the 90 minutes my friends and I were at Balcony, their six-piece band was breaking decibel levels - even outside. Inside, it was excruciatingly loud and painful! In that entire time, there was just one punter inside. Outside, there was again just one punter - being tended to by 6 waiters! With Balcony and Telephone Bar both around half-full, For Fun must be losing money hand over fist. So if it’s been around for some time, in my view it’s clearly time that it joined Rome/Roxy and all the other failed establishments which have occupied the site. Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 Just had it established that it's the same venue. It was closed for a quick makeover which included moving the stage. This now faces you as you enter - which means all that noise is projected forwards and out in to the soi! I'll mark it down for the Rome/Roxy/etc. graveyard ere long. Quote
pong Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 about earsplitting deafening loud music: walked by soi Mensgate/Hotmail yesterday (yes, the very 1st time this time in BKK for me)-just to see what has changed, and the level on entry from Suriwong was also full-blast untill the next 2 gogobars or so. And the touts there seem to have calmed down on about dragging you into their bars/shops/etc. But why do not these masageboys do that? They seem the best fit fr a short try out? Quote
ChristianPFC Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 A few days ago, I met a Thai friend at Balcony (the part that is opposite For Fun - two House drinks for 99 Baht) and even there the music was too loud to have a conversation without shouting and repeating. That was around 11 pm. Earlier in the evening, 6 to 7 pm, the music/noise level is ok. I will reduce my visits to Soi 4 to one or two per holiday. In a gogo bar, I can use (and I do use) earplugs, but for drinking and chatting I will go somewhere else. Quote
