Thai and SE Asian Buddhas are almost always very svelte. Actually, there is only ONE fat Chinese buddha - an incarnation of the Maitreya Buddha, but he is very popular, even with the more Taoist-oriented devotees who sometimes worship him as one who brings children. Hence the large number of fat Buddha images we see so frequently. He is more popularly known as the Laughing Buddha, to the Asians who worship him. Quote
