Guest fountainhall Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 Now we know. Birds do do it! They can be as gay as humans. Same-sex pairs of monogamous birds are just as attached and faithful to each other as those paired with a member of the opposite sex. The insight comes from a study of zebra finches - highly vocal, colourful birds that sing to their mates, a performance thought to strengthen the pair's bond. Scientists found that same-sex pairs of finches sang to and preened each other just like heterosexual pairs. The study is reported in the journal Behavioural Ecology and Sociobiology. The findings indicate that, even in birds, the drive to find a mate is far more complicated than simply the need to reproduce. http://www.bbc.co.uk/nature/14479670 The article also points out that Roy and Silo, a pair of bonded male penguins at London Zoo, paid no attention to females in their enclosure for at least a year. They even built a nest together and incubated and hatched a fertislised egg given to them by one of the keepers. Quote
Guest thaiworthy Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 Got any ladybird photos you want to share? Just kidding. Seriously, thank you for the article. Nesting together and incubating a fertilized egg is the whole point. I would love to show this to the religious right when they argue against same-sex adoptions. Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 The next line of Noel Coward's great lyrics for Cole Porter's wonderful "Let's Fall in Love" is - "Even educated fleas do it". I wonder if someone will soon discover that this also has some gay relevance? Coward couldn't omit a reference to Thailand - "Folks in Siam do it, Think of Siamese twins . . " Of all the many versions, I think Eartha Kitt's sexy purring version is a classic. Quote
