FunFifties Posted December 18 Posted December 18 Hi, Will be going to Thailand and Cambodia soon and would like to find a tailor and an optician in Bangkok that I can place an order with at the beginning of my trip and pick up around 3 weeks later before I return home. At the tailor's I would like to get 2-3 pairs of chinos, 2-3 shirts and perhaps a suit. At the optician's I am hoping to buy a pair of glasses and a pair of shades with my prescription. My challenge with the optician is that my head is quite big so I need to find a place that has a selection of frames that will fit. Any reccomendations please? Quote
vinapu Posted December 18 Posted December 18 my last three pairs of glasses are from Bangkok and last time I used quite big shop on Silom by soi 1. Not sure what it's name is but it's quite prominent and well stocked. English was spoken. You may try there FunFifties 1 Quote
Members tm_nyc Posted December 19 Members Posted December 19 My impression is that eyeglasses & frames are not much cheaper in Thailand than in the US, because of the import duties, I guess. I bought lenses in Phnom Penh from Owndays, a Japanese-based eyeware chain. They have several branches around PP. Good value & satisfactory service. FunFifties, reader and vinapu 1 2 Quote
Foolish Posted December 19 Posted December 19 I had my shirts and pants done at Woolrich in silom. The service and quality is good. A bit more pricey than my old tailor at MBK but I prefer the fit here. FunFifties 1 Quote

Owndays is reasonably priced but there isn't much options if you have a wider face like me... FunFifties and tm_nyc 1 1 Quote

Members Lucky Posted December 19 Members Posted December 19 How about a periodontist? That's what I am looking for. Quote
AndyUK Posted Saturday at 01:28 AM Posted Saturday at 01:28 AM When staying in Silom, I have used Excelsior tailors and have always been delighted with the clothes they have produced. A tad pricey but quality unsurpassed. FunFifties 1 Quote

Don't know specifically about perio treatment but you could try the Dental Dept of Bumrungrad Hospital. I broke a tooth in BKK back in September & their treatment (on 4 visits) was excellent. ichigo Posted Monday at 01:49 AM Posted Monday at 01:49 AM The only tailor I ever went to in BKK was on my very first trip to Bangkok in 2016 - State Tailors (in the State Tower building/Lebua hotel). It was my tour guide that took me there, no doubt he would have got a kickback, but the suits that were made for me fitted perfectly and I still have them today, although I don't wear them much anymore because I got a bit fat Lucky, FunFifties and vinapu 1 2 Quote

The hotel recommended them. They were good, but now, with so much discounting at home. It's cheaper to get good quality shirts, etc, in UK. Quote
Raposa Posted yesterday at 03:54 AM Posted yesterday at 03:54 AM I usually don’t recommend a specific tailor. Most of the good tailors got their own style that they do well, and it’s wise to go with the house style. Best would be to go to a few and ask to see samples of their work and see which one has the style of suit you’re looking for. Quote
