10tazione Posted December 6 Posted December 6 If I am not mistaken, BKK wanted to start immigration using machines for arriving passengers? Did anyone arrive in BKK in december and make a new electronic experience? So far, i have experienced the following: 1) Departing internationally from BKK: At immigration, scan passport, scan face, leave. Worked well, took only 5 seconds, no queue (ok was 6:00 am), no stamp in passport anymore. 2) Departing nationally from BKK Check-in-Computer suggested to register for face recognition for boarding pass free experience. Having enough time till departure, i decided to try it out: Scan passport, scan face, registration done. Next step is where you normally scan boarding pass. You go to different lane, look to camera and .... access denied! Tried one more time, didnt work. Asked staff, staff thought i didnt register for it, went to checkin terminal with me only to find out i did already register. Back to face recognition, tried different lane, tried without glasses, tried with glasses, access denied. So in the end used classic approach with long queue. Watched a few others trying face recognition, most got through, but not all of them. Overall I dont see the benefit, because a the gates itself is no face recognition, so you need the boarding pass anyway. So in total you have one additional step and you save one queue (if it worked). Not sure if that additional step has to be done at every checkin or just once. Anyone else made experiences with modern technology at BKK airport? jamiebee, splinter1949, Londoner and 1 other 2 2 Quote
Londoner Posted December 6 Posted December 6 My departure from BKK on Wednesday was pain-free (at least in terms of the immigration process!), and quicker than usual. I wasn't prepared for the changes but the system worked for me. I was in the priority queue...I don't know whether this helped. 10tazione 1 Quote

If you live here in Thailand as a retiree - you need to worry about the "stamp in the passport" - as us retirees have a Thailand chore to perform every 90 days - to show our face and to report where we live to immigration. They take your passport and flip through the pages (analyzing if you had any in and outs) to see if you violated the 90 day reporting requirement. Without the stamp in your passport (because of the above mentioned scan automation) how can you prove to immigration if their records do not agree with your records to avoid that you are fined if their is a discrepancy in the 90 day reporting requirement ? I will fly to The Philippines later this month - so, I will try to see if I can opt for a manual stamp on exit. 10tazione 1 Quote

This was high on the list of cons why I chose Mexico over Thailand to move to..once you have residency , that's it. Only notification is change of address, and after 5 yrs residency, you are eligible for citizenship, if you want. bkkmfj2648 and reader 1 1 Quote

Although there are rent boys in Mexico, the free Mexicans far outnumber the free Thais...and Mexicans haven't mastered photoshop like the Thais, lol Quote

US to Mexico, barely any miles, Hotels, average compared to 5* hotels in Asia at Hampton airport US prices, Food....Thai food in Thailand is AMAZING...no good thai food in Mexico, however in US, Bali, Panama I've had very good at some places. And I forgot flights, great Business class that US, latin/south America and Europe can't come close to. But the latins win for passionate amazing sex 99% of the time. Quote
