Shows in Pattaya

I was out and about with a few of my friends last night and we popped int The Copa showbar. Ok, it was not so busy as i have seen in the past but the show was such a yawn. We then popped over to the late Wild West show, this was empty, this show was a bigger yawn.

We all were saying how, since Kevin and Marsha have left Throb and Splash, there has not been any show that can really touch them.

I am not trying to cause a riot on this board by saying the other shows were not good, its just Throb and Splash had something for everyones taste.

It was well run and you always felt welcome. It needs i think something like that back in Pattaya. Maybe then we will see some of the olden days back, where you could not get a seat for the show.

The Venue do a good show, but its more lady boy stuff. Plus cant stand the furlang who sings as if he is the next Tom Jones.

I do hope some of the owners of the boards read these boards and then maybe they may consider changing some of there shows.

I totally agree with you Martelly. I feel the same way as you do. I don't understand why more bars that have shows don't put more effort into them.

I did go see Wild West show several times a few months back and it was the best thing in Pattaya. If you get a chance, drop by the bar and see the show. It is usually fun and entertaining and I didn't see the same thing night after night.

I doubt the bar owners will care much about changing their shows. Why? Like Gaybutton, it is one of those things I simply don't get. It is not for lack of talent in Pattaya. Pattaya has the talent to support a great show.

Maybe it's a vicious cycle. Maybe the bars don't put much effort or changes into their shows because there are so few customers these days and maybe there are so few customers these days because the bars don't put much effort or changes into their shows.

All I know is I haven't been to a bar show in ages that hasn't been virtually the same thing they've been putting on ever since I first started coming to Thailand. With some of them, it's probably still the same costumes.

As a relative newcomer to visiting Pattaya, I am curious about the frequent discussions of the Pataya of old.

How were things different? I can understand it being "busier" at certain times. Of course I notice a difference between high and low season, as I have visited during both. But what were Throb & Splash doing better than what is available now?

I visit the Copa show several times each visit and have always had a good time. Very rarely hear the same songs, some very cute dancers, attentive staff, and so on. What were the olden places up to?

Was it a more sex act "Bangkok" type show?

I liked the shows at the Ole Cockpit (not known as Throb) and Simon Cabaret whewn it was down on Walking Street

anonone, The diference between The Copa and what was Throb and Splash was that it catered for everyones taste. You had Sexyboys who stripped down to sexy G Strings. You had good comedy with only one big fat lady boy. You had Theme nights. Also the routines were always changing. Every day was a different show. The Copa is still doing a few of the old Throb song routines, so that shows you how much they have changed. Most of there dancers are of the ladyboy type where as Throb had men Dancers.

I know that some people like The Copa show bar, but it is the same as Tiffany, BBB and Alcazar. Throb was always different, hence to say low season and high season the first show was always jammed packed, with a full sign outside.

Times have changed and there are less tourist, but i bet if Throb was still going it will be doing better than most bars now. I for one would be there most nights, as not only did i enjoy the shows my Thai boyfriend and his friends liked them. Thats saying something when a Thai says lets go see Throb show.

The swimming show at splash has remained the same and there is no change there. So no comment on the swimming show.

Pattaya now lacks entertainment. It still has the bars, but the shows are all the same. Until a bar can come up with a new concept to entertain the guest, sites like Gayromeo and others will get most customers.

Thanks for the info Martelly.

It helps put things into context. I know everyone has their own personal preferences.

I am sure it would also be different if I was spending longer amounts on time in Thailand. While the shows remain a somewhat novel experience for my short trips, I can understand they would become boring for those staying for longer periods of time.

For now, I can only dream to have such a problem....that I am in Thailand for such a long period of time that I become bored with it's offerings. :D

I am having a blast exploring all that Thailand has to offer and value other's experiences so I can relate more to what I find.

I recently went to the shows at Copa and Boys,Boys,Boys. BBB had the same old basic tired show I have seen over and over....the only difference now is they have a shower show, but I was still bored. The show at Copa incorporates more up to date material and, in my opinion, was more entertaining. The boy I was with enjoyed it more than the show at BBB also. Before going I asked one of the waiters at Panorama which show was better and he said Copa, he was right.

Have to agree with you daaraa.

I much prefer Copa to BBB, and for the reasons you mentioned.

However, I don't like the pool show at Copa very much. Doesn't do anything for me, and it doesn't seem to draw any type of crowd in either...

Hi, this is my first post here. Thank you for having me.

I went to the Wild West Show with a ladyboy friend last week and spent most of my time thinking how they could run a business where there were about five times more performers than members of the audience. The show was fine, but what spoiled it from me was the suggestion from a member of staff (in Thai, thinking I couldn't understand) that we should drink more quickly. We were each on our second bottle of Chang Beer (each of which cost an astonishing 150 Baht, meaning our bill was already 600 Baht) and at the time and had been in the place for only about forty minutes. Needless to say, we check-binned and left. Telling customers to drink more quickly is not a great strategy for winning more business.

The swim show did nothing for me either. It use to draw in a lot of the asia tours. But i think that has stopped now.

Wish Marsha would open a show again in Pattaya, i for one would like to see that.

@ Q of anonone.

I went last time along time before even those venues were working by that name. Incidentally, on the sawatdee board there just was a lively topic about ''how people learnt about Pattaya''. In short; for me it was FUN-and a lot cheaper as BKK by that time. This was even before bars in Sunee started to open and before that Boyztown sign got erected. You could simply interact freely with anyone, without the direct intervention of money greedy mamasans, boys were impressed if you spoke some Thai and if you might even have visited their home-province and quite a lot were more on the lookout for a moreorless permanent friend as a shorttimer-very much in fact as the str8 sector with the bargirls operates. hen it all got commercialised more and more-and a nearthesame opened up in Sunee-a new discovery. Untill the cycle repeated itself again.

Welcome to the site!

Thanks for the acknowledgment, Michael.

Maybe I should say something about myself (is there a section for this?). Anyway, I'm a British guy in my late 40s, living in Pattaya, and have done so for well over five years now. I am, I guess, bi-sexual, but I tend to live in my gay persona (if I can put it that way) more frequently these days.

Anyway, once again, thanks for having me here.

Really? And you took 45 min to drink a beer? :) Not like my friends from UK. They tear down 4 before I finish one. :) JK

Maybe it was the price tag of 150 Baht a bottle, which is more than five times the cost of a bottle in a supermarket or 7-11, that slowed me down. :o

Talking about what is good in current shows, the other day I stopped to see X-boys show. There was a visiting group of break dancers which was quite impressive and refreshing...
