Report from Recife

Stayed in Recife 3 nights. Many for-free grindr offers, most disappeared not wanting 2 use translator. Had one good encouter with a 29 y/o chelloist.

Another good prospect turned sour when upon showing up, the well-meaning guy expected me to help him with R300 for taxi. Huge sum aside, it infuriated me that he didnt raise this in advance (as others do), and I showed him the door.

Went twice to Thermas Boa. First time on thursday 20:30. Contrary to my concerns, it wasn't in a winding-down mode. I was surprised at how big fancy and well-lit it is, most of the space dedicated to lounging drinking dancing rather than to sexing. 

There were around 40 patrons and 7 GPs, only 3 made advances - polite and gentle. Saw two long hard thick erections which I crave, but those bodybuilders were too big for me.

When I asked how much, guys said 200. Without making a counter offer, I just said softly "no", and they immediately downgraded to 100; one even to 80. I picked the one with the best smile - thin lean smooth - and he didn't disappoint. I added a R20 tip.

On saturday evening I arrived earlier, expecting more guys 2 choose from. I was disappointed. There were more than double the number of patrons (HUGE bellies), but only a few more GPs. I sat 30 minutes in a corner fiddling with my phone while watching in vain for eye candy.

Finally I spotted someone similar to the guy from thursday, agreed in translator writing on the same package, and he was better than thursday.

However, as we were cleaning up, he asked if I could help him buy a R250 New Year outfit! I said I would give him a tip of 20 but he wasnt satisfied, and then suddenly claimed that bcs of the 'massage' - I need to pay him not 100 but 200.

Of course I refused; at his insistence, went with him to the receptionist; the guy there couldnt care less; I stood my ground and gave him his 100 (no tip); and that was that. Note 2 self: in future, make a screenshot of the translator agreement.

At the risk of ridicule, let me ask a remedial question:
How did you identify the GPs at Thermas Boa Vista?

When I visited on a crowded Saturday night last June, the place was packed with handsome guys in their 20s and 30s aggressively cruising each other, along with some older guys, most trying to get lucky with a castoff younger guy. For my first time ever, I could never crack the code to find even one GP. 😬 

Maybe only a few GPs that night and they were all taken? I have to rule out my fantasy explanation that they could not imagine that I would be paying. Is there a corner of the facility where the GPs tend to hang out?

I agree, there are a few hot locals who are not interested in the whole GP thing - and I remember I was mistaken a few times too: one guy I presumed a GP turned out to be just a local stunner on a sex binge, and another guy whom I presumed a local cruising with friends turned out to be a GP.

A key thing for me in these cases is eye contact. If you try to establish eye contact and show your interest, a GP would maintain eye contact back or even approach you or smile, whereas a non-GP local would not maintain eye contact and his body language would be he's not interested. GPs normally do not ignore your eye contact, unless they are booked by someone else already at that particular moment

"Note 2 self: in future, make a screenshot of the translator agreement."  That is such a good idea, I have thought of it in the past.  WHen it degrades to that point, it really is a bitter experience.  They hear English, or God forbit see a +1 number (*telling them you are from Canada helps a little versus USA) and the price triples!

Not sure if it’s still that way , because last time I was on Thermas Boa Vista was maybe 3-4 years ago, most GP would hang out or be passing by near the TV room showing porno.

Yes; still the same place. It's also right nextbto a darkened corridor leading 2 cabinas and a darkroom.

I don't remember ever having a prblm of distinguishing btw GPs and not-GPs. The have a certain air about them...

Thanks for the tips guys. Unexpectedly, I never went to the sauna. 

After some online searching, I managed to track down a local lawyer who I met at the sauna in 2004. In 2005, we went to glorious Fernando de Noronha together. And in 2006, I joined him for Recife's fantastic immersive Carnaval. Alas, lost tract. But the wild reunion exceeded all expectations. Never made it to the sauna.
