bkkmfj2648 Posted December 1 Posted December 1 Late Wednesday, 28 November 2024, my gym trainer alerts me with the below message that our gym will be closed effective the following day. Quite perplexing as they did not say anything in the morning. The former location was at the Jomtien Skypark Lucean center on Second Road near Soi 1. Today, Sunday 01-Dec-2024, I walked to the new gym location so I could learn where it is exactly because my start time is at 7:50am tomorrow and I do not want to be late or get lost. Going south on Jomtien Beach Road, it is shortly after soi 8, after the 7-Eleven and is now housed in the former Giant Octopus Seafood restaurant - as shown below: New relocated gym marquee: Here is a video that my gym trainer sent me today of the new much larger gym space - it looks good as I see that there are more machines available to work with - especially the running machines which were often full in the former gym space. 1733052549017.mp4 This will be my last week at the gym, as I am letting my gym membership lapse in preparation for my departure from Thailand as part of my 2025 year tax minimalization plan. The previous location was perfect for me as I could walk there from my condo in about 10 to 12 minutes. The new location is much further away. Unfortunately, in Jomtien there are not many gyms with air-conditioning - as most of the gyms are outside gyms - and that is just too hot for me to work out properly as I am already exhausted in the airconditioned environment. A gym won't serve me until September next year and perhaps another airconditioned gym will open in the now former location which is now empty. In closing, I leave you all with this entertaining self-indulgence video of some of the Jomtien Complex guys who also work out in this gym. I believe that they are all MBs - and they are working on their bodies for all of you - our forum members - so that you can have a good sexy time with them. https://www.facebook.com/reel/1596569601191223 khaolakguy 1 Quote

Probably the next biggest expense would be the monthly electricity for the aircon. A good way to reduce that aircon bill would be to either: Tint the glass at the front of the gym - sun facing side, or, put up retractable curtains. The difference in the temperature within that space is a couple of degrees, as the back part where the free weights were is always cool. @Olddaddy I went to visit the old gym space today and it is now totally empty, as all of the gym equipment was moved to the new gym --> so another big expense would be to buy new gym equipment. If you do take it over, I would strongly suggest the following 2 improvements: 1.) There were only 4 running machines for cardio - please add 4 more and due to the limited space put the additional 4 machines above the 4 - stacked 1 level up. The ceilings are super high in that space. 2.) The locker room was the size of a postage stamp. Expand them by getting rid of that hardly ever used table tennis space. If 2 people enter the locker room at the same time it is very inconvenient. For the rest - The gym was very good. Quote

When it opened, many people from our gym left to go there but after 1 month they all returned. Due to Thailand's tough defamation law, I won't say why - but if you search in Google and look at the reviews you will see why. Quote

bkkmfj2648 Posted December 3 Author Posted December 3 9 hours ago, Olddaddy said: And add more dumbbells and mirrors @Olddaddy - well the owner of the Jomtien Gym Fitness Center must have heard your above request. This morning when I arrived at the gym (day 2 in the new location), there were a massive number of additional NEW dumbbells. As you can see from the below 2 photos taken this morning the increase in dumbbells is over 200% with an emphasis on the more larger (heavier) size. I am really liking the new space as it is located in the former 2nd floor of the Giant Octopus restaurant, where the gym is in the upper floor in a huge vast space that is also 200% bigger than the former space in the Skypark Lucean showroom. The BEST part of this new gym is that it is directly on Jomtien Beach Road meters from the sea. When you are doing your cardio you have an awesome view of the beach and sea. In the former gym, you had a view onto the south bound traffic lanes of Jomtien Second Road. In addition, the owner probably added an additional 100% in new weight machines. So, this new relocated gym has a lot of future potential. I need to correct some above reported information: The gym owner was paying 95,000 baht monthly for the former space (I had previously incorrectly reported 100,000 baht), The gym owner is now paying 200,000 baht monthly for this new space - which includes 2 large floors - where the gym is on the upper floor and in the lower floor is the former Giant Octopus restaurant space - which for now is empty - but gym rumors report that the owner will reopen the restaurant with a new name. Additional photos: Looking from the back of the gym free weight area towards the main entrance and front desk. Looking from the front main desk area towards the cardio area with the sea view vinapu 1 Quote

Certainly they exist, out of hand I can name 6, 5 in BKK and one in Pattaya, two of them married quite a few years. First we rarely ask them about their status and even if we ask we can't be sure of accuracy of their answer. Second , money they bring home may be decent so wife may not mind their job , at least to a degree. Third , and I heard it directly from guy ( in this case only with girlfriend) that his girl doesn't mind if he goes with guys as long as he is home at some point every night and uses condom but if he was to be found going with girls he claims "I'd be finished" BL8gPt, reader and JimmyJoe 3 Quote
reader Posted December 3 Posted December 3 I know many guys who work massage who are married, especially around Soi 6 and Silom. This is probably the rule rather than the exception among those from Vietnam. Not aware of any who experience problems at home because they are supporting their families. vinapu and JimmyJoe 2 Quote

As aside note , there's guy on Grindr I know who escorts as side job as he has full time one in one of warehouses ( not married though for all I know) - ideal call when I need somebody mid day, say noonish as he works 4pm to 12am reader 1 Quote

The local Thai's mix, and the Laos, Cambodians. Many are in different places in life, but they don't draw lines as we do. They are friends with anyone in their circle it seems. vinapu 1 Quote
reader Posted December 4 Posted December 4 The culture inside a massage shop is a microcosm for a greater Southeast Asian society. It’s especially evident where guys from different ASEAN countries are working together. You may have single and married guys working side by side with gay and straight—and anything in between—servicing the same customers day in a day out. It becomes a workplace where they do their job and manage to get along despite their differences. For us westerners, this may be a difficult concept to accept. We grew up for the most part in homophobic cultures where it was inconceivable that gays could mix easily with straights. But with few exceptions, that’s how these shops function in the tourist areas of Bangkok. (I can’t comment on Pattaya because I have no experience there). I don’t think I would want it any other way. vinapu and 10tazione 1 1 Quote

I get along with my co-workers too ,(about 18 in my direct workplace ) I say hello and goodbye , respect their differences ,culture ,religion ,gender I'm certainly not their friend though , probably only one I am close to you I now not say "how are you? Otherwise I will get colleagues who will take that as a way to tell me their problems,🫂so I just say hello.👋 Quote

Perhaps it’s because that those who work in massage shops provide intimate hands-on service to all comers. I don’t think you do that in your workplace. But I stand to be corrected on that point, Olddaddy, as you are currently exploring many new careers simultaneously. 🙂 floridarob, 10tazione and Olddaddy 3 Quote
