Guest fountainhall Posted May 14, 2011 Posted May 14, 2011 The claims and counter-claims of who-did-what to locate Bin Laden continue. Senator John McCain seems to be leading a campaign to counter the claims by officials of the Bush administration - and eagerly taken up by the political right - that the torture and waterboarding of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed led directly to the location of Bin Laden. To bolster his case, McCain has called on former Bush attorney general Michael Mukasey to retract these claims. A recent Washington Post article gives details of McCain Quote
Guest voldemar Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Yesterday I watched Russian TV program "Postscriptum" which discussed in detail Osama episode. The program more or less reflects the official Kremlin viewpoint. The commentator raised the issue why Osama was killed rather than captured alive and added "if it was Bin Laden". Now, I obviously not necessarily agree with Kremlin viewpoints on various international events (and, in fact, mostly disagree) . Moreover, I agree with most of the posters on this thread that the event was more or less accurately described by official Washington. But it is difficult to argue that no attempt was made to present any evidence that it was, in fact, Osama and we need to rely exclusively on what we were told by "Dear leader." Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 A man is a man, and a man has sexual urges. We are now told that Bin Laden, who lived in the compound with his 3 wives and several of his children, likely watched porn movies. According to officials, the commandos found a 'fairly extensive' collection of modern porn films as they searched the building after Bin Laden was shot. The officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said they did not yet know where in the compound the films were found - or who had been watching it. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1386856/Osama-Bin-Ladens-stash-X-rated-pornography-squalid-lair.html?ito=feeds-newsxml Truth, or spin? I have zero idea. Quote
Guest Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 If waterboarding led to Bin Laden, that's the perfect justification for selective use of this method of intelligence gathering. As for the pornography, wouldn't that be against his religious principles? Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 If waterboarding led to Bin Laden, that's the perfect justification for selective use of this method of intelligence gathering. As for the pornography, wouldn't that be against his religious principles? But John McCain and others are leading the charge in claiming waterboarding played no part in locating Bin Laden. So if waterboarding is 'spin', could the pornography issue be, if not spin, then the start of a fiction to 'assassinate' his character in Arab eyes? I have no idea if there is anything in the Koran about pornography. Quote
KhorTose Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 I have no idea if there is anything in the Koran about pornography. Yes and No, the Qur'an does. state that revealing a woman's body and some parts of a man's body is haram (closest translation is sinful) . Therefore, porn is definitely haram unless everyone is wearing clothes and then it would not be porn. You cannot be sinful and righteous, as it is only the righteous that go to heaven. Quote
