TotallyOz Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 If you are out for a stroll at Central World and want something to eat that is tasty and inexpensive, try Pizza Pizza by Yanni on the 7th Floor of Central World next to the market and the movie theater. They have great pizza (four cheese is yummy) and their lasagna is also very good. They sever pretty fast and the price is reasonable at about 220 for entrees. Quote

Hi, Michael, It is nice to hear that you are energetic as usual and moving around a lot in BKK. May I ask you about what is a major issue for me while there. How is the traffic? I mean while in BKK I have really difficult time moving around. The subway is frequently so full that I simply cannot use it. And cabs would not go to places like Sukhumvit or Sathorn even for double price due to (presumably) traffic jam... Thanks. Quote

You are right on target with everything you say! Traffic is the biggest issue. Trying to get a taxi from Central or Paragon in the late afternoon to go to Sathorn or those areas is crazy. I find the Skytrain easy to take and no problem for me. The traffic on Sathorn is a real PITA. I am not sure why it is backed up so. Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 Living in the city, I have got to know what roads and times to avoid, when possible. I also know a few short cuts which many taxi drivers don't seem to aware of! Fortunately, I rarely have to travel in the main rush hours (which seem to be 07:00 - 10:00 and 16:30 - 19:30), which clearly helps. Between these periods, I generally do not have much of a problem with taxi times. Even from Central Department store at Chidlom, I can get to Sathorn quite easily by walking on to Sukhumvit and flagging a taxi there rather than outside the store. Frankly I would never try to get a cab from Paragon to Sathorn late afternoon. Far better to take the Skytrain to Chongnonsi. There are almost always cruising cabs going east from there. Like Michael, I have little problem with the crowds on the Skytrain and subway. I'm perfectly happy to be squeezed between a couple of cute young guys and just watch the eye candy Often I will take a taxi to a Skytrain or subway station, then get to the station nearest to my destination and take another cab from there. Unfortunately, in heavy rain, all bets are off and I'm as stuck as everyone else. In those times, I always take with me a featherweight waterproof jacket and pair of overpants which I got in a hiking store. They were not cheap, but they are great and keep all but my shoes completely dry. I agree about the northbound Sathorn traffic. In the afternoons, I suspect the problem is that most traffic along Sathorn is trying to access the expressway entrances on Rama 4, but have to feed in with that from Rama 4 and Witayu. I have noticed the cops on duty at the Sathorn/Rama 4 junction always seem to favour the flow along Rama 4. Quote
