Tourists Evacuated as Fire Hits Pattaya Condo

Tourists were evacuated in chaos after a fire broke out at a Pattaya condo early on the morning of November 17th.

At 7:10 AM, Pattaya police received a report of a fire at a condominium near  Jomtien Beach in Pattaya. Firefighters and rescue teams from the Sawang Boriboon Foundation rushed to the scene with three fire trucks.

The fire occurred in a 15-story building, with flames and smoke billowing from a room on the 6th floor. Emergency responders quickly evacuated both Thai and foreign tourists from the building. Firefighters used hoses to extinguish the blaze and successfully brought the situation under control.

According to fire officials, the building had an internal fire suppression system, but it reportedly failed to work due to a lack of water in the system.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined, but officials believed it was due to an electrical short circuit . Officials collected evidence, while coordinating with relevant agencies to thoroughly inspect the building’s fire suppression system and overall safety measures.

There were no injuries reported in the fire and an investigation was continuing.

I recall discussion on here as to whether, even if fitted, the sprinkler system  would work! Lack of water, perhaps  never connected.

Lesson learned: mere presence of water sprinkler device in your room is no guarantee that it will function as intended. This is all too common defect in older buildings where maintenance is lax. That’s why I travel with small battery-operated smoke detector.
