RIchard Branson Becomes Air Asia Flight Attendant

Sir Richard Branson, boss of Virgin Atlantic Airlines and its offshoots in Australia and the USA, may be one of the world’s most admired businessmen. And let's give him his due - he really does make running a business look fun. He oversees his many companies from his private island in the Caribbean without even a formal office. Most times he needs to see his staff, he flies them in. Lucky staff!

In addition, he seems to have ‘done it all’ from circling the world in a hot air balloon, to pioneering commercial space flights and preparing to dive further into the oceans than any man has gone before.

But the guy does like to make bets from time to time. As reported by CNN, early last year he took a stake in one of the Formula 1 racing teams. He’s not the only airline owner to have been seduced by the lure of fast cars. Tony Fernandez, boss of Air Asia, is involved with another team. At the start of last season, Branson and Fernandez took a bet on which of their teams would be more successful when the schedule of races was over. The loser’s penalty - to dress and serve as a flight attendant on the winner’s airline.

So, on 1st May, Richard Branson wearing an Air Asia cabin crew uniform will serve passengers on the Air Asia X flight from London’s Stanstead airport to Kuala Lumpur. But that’s not all – he has to be a female cabin attendant. So, if you fancy seeing Richard Branson in drag, plus enjoying a live band performance and a magic show on board, 180 tickets are up for grabs at a whopping £4,500 (about US$7,450), a helluva lot more than the usual price. But in typical Branson fashion, the airlines won’t benefit – apart from gaining a ton of fabulous and FREE worldwide publicity – as all the proceeds go to charity.

There’s more. "As an AirAsia flight attendant, Richard would have to comply to our grooming standards, and that includes shaving his legs,'' said Fernandes. So once on board, you can bid for the privilege of being one of the passengers to shave the tycoon’s legs!

We are told, though, he will be allowed to keep his beard! Sounds like a load of fun – unless all you like to do on your overnight flights is catch some sleep!
