I friend sent this to me. Don't know where it originally comes from, but I found it interesting - because I got all the answers wrong! Mind you, I was not fully awake - and I'll stick to that excuse!

Don't scroll down to the answers until you have answered the questions.

FIRST QUESTION:

YOU ARE A PARTICIPANT IN A RACE. YOU OVERTAKE THE SECOND PERSON. WHAT POSITION ARE YOU IN?

(Answer and then Scroll Down)

~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~
ANSWER : IF YOU ANSWERED THAT YOU ARE FIRST, THEN YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY WRONG! IF YOU OVERTAKE THE SECOND PERSON AND YOU TAKE HIS PLACE, YOU ARE IN SECOND PLACE!
TRY TO DO BETTER NEXT TIME. NOW ANSWER THE SECOND QUESTION, BUT DON'T TAKE AS MUCH TIME AS YOU TOOK FOR THE FIRST QUESTION, OK?
SECOND QUESTION:
IF YOU OVERTAKE THE LAST PERSON, THEN YOU ARE....?
(Answer and then Scroll Down)
~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~

ANSWER: IF YOU ANSWERED THAT YOU ARE SECOND TO LAST, THEN YOU ARE..... WRONG AGAIN. TELL ME SUNSHINE, HOW CAN YOU OVERTAKE THE LAST PERSON??

YOU'RE NOT VERY GOOD AT THIS, ARE YOU?

THIRD QUESTION:

VERY TRICKY ARITHMETIC! NOTE:

THIS MUST BE DONE IN YOUR HEAD ONLY. DO NOT USE PAPER AND PENCIL OR A CALCULATOR.

TRY IT.

TAKE 1000 AND ADD 40 TO IT. NOW ADD ANOTHER 1000 NOW ADD 30. ADD ANOTHER 1000. NOW ADD 20 .. NOW ADD ANOTHER 1000. NOW ADD 10. WHAT IS THE TOTAL?

(Answer and then Scroll Down).

~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~
DID YOU GET 5000?
THE CORRECT ANSWER IS ACTUALLY 4100!
IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE IT, CHECK IT WITH A CALCULATOR! TODAY IS DEFINITELY NOT YOUR DAY, IS IT?
MAYBE YOU'LL GET THE LAST QUESTION RIGHT.... MAYBE...
FOURTH QUESTION:
MARY'S FATHER HAS FIVE DAUGHTERS:
1.NANA, 2. NENE, 3. NINI, 4. NONO, AND ???
WHAT IS THE NAME OF THE FIFTH DAUGHTER?
(Answer and then Scroll Down)
~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~

DID YOU ANSWER NUNU? NO! OF COURSE IT ISN'T. HER NAME IS MARY! READ THE QUESTION AGAIN!

OKAY, NOW THE BONUS ROUND, I.E., A FINAL CHANCE TO REDEEM YOURSELF:

A MUTE PERSON GOES INTO A SHOP AND WANTS TO BUY A TOOTHBRUSH. BY IMITATING THE ACTION OF BRUSHING HIS TEETH HE SUCCESSFULLY EXPRESSES HIMSELF TO THE SHOPKEEPER AND THE PURCHASE IS DONE.

NEXT, A BLIND MAN COMES INTO THE SHOP WHO WANTS TO BUY A PAIR OF SUNGLASSES; HOW DOES HE INDICATE WHAT HE WANTS?

(Answer and then Scroll Down)

IT'S REALLY VERY SIMPLE

HE OPENS HIS MOUTH AND ASKS FOR IT.

.

DOES YOUR EMPLOYERS ACTUALLY PAY YOU TO THINK??

IF SO DO NOT LET THEM SEE YOUR ANSWERS FOR THIS TEST!

I love brain twisters, but I've got to be the thickest one here. I whipped through all of them with no problem EXCEPT the one where you take an initial 1000 and add 40 and so on. Try as i might, I still come up with 5000. What am I missing?

. . . dare I suggest, part of your brain??? :o

Undoubtedly! Perhaps the title of the thread fits me more than I realized - Dementia. I'm curious if others have figured out why the right answer it's 5000. If so, help me out and show me where I'm going wrong.

If you look closely at it, it's actually quite obvious. Sadly, as stated earlier, I'm totally brain dead!

I got the others easily, but I have to admit the 1000 plus 40 question took awhile. I kept getting 5000 too, but I finally figured it out. Luckily, I'm a little beyond the age at which I would give a damn what my SAT score would be . . .

Did they have the SAT back in the 30's? :)

Hmmmm, I got them all wrong except for the math problem which was 4100. That took all of 10 seconds in my head. There were 4 x 1000= 4000; plus 40+30+20+10=100; so total was 4000+100=4100. So, I guess that makes me an idiot-savant?

Oh, and it started so well. First one right then bottomed out. :ninja:
