Guest Astrrro Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 Another earthquake a few minutes ago and a tsunami alert for northern Japan! Get the word out! Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 The BBC is reporting the earthquake which preceded the tsunami was 7.4 on the Richter scale. Its epicentre was about 40kms off the coast of Honshu and 118 kms north of Fukushima. That's pretty violent in comparison to many in recent decades, but not the main one a few weeks ago, nor the one in Chile last year. The 'quake which devastated Christchurch in New Zealand in February was only 6.3 by comparison. Workers evacuated the Fukushima nuclear plant but TEPCO says it still has communication with the plant which still has power. The tsunami is estimated to have a wave height of about 1 meter. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said based on all available data there is not a tsunami threat to Hawaii. Quote
