Others are enthusiastic and happily buy them or download them from the endless variety of internet sites. I remember purchasing my first 8mm movie by mail from a company in Los Angeles (for in those days, vdo had not yet been invented). It arrived in a package with some strange title, presumably to put off customs and others who might wish to take a peek. The quality was pretty dreadful but I got a quick thrill from furtively watching it a couple of times. Thereafter, it remained unseen, stashed away somewhere in the attic where I hoped no one else in my family would find it. Now when I see sellers on the beach or I pop into the dedicated gay vdo stores in Tokyo, I get that same slight rush of adrenalin as I look over the covers, conjuring - as the graphic designers intend - erotic fantasies from the photos. Sometimes I will be tempted to buy. Then I will later settle down to watch a few. Yet, despite the beauty of the guys on display, the achingly slow development of the action - that near predictable progression from meeting, to attraction, to manual probing down trousers, to disrobing, and from there to a good 7 – 8 minutes of oral simulation, a similar amount of time for anal stimulation, before the deed itself and the inevitable happy ending close-ups – have me fast-forwarding so frequently that a 2 hour film ends up as around 10 occasionally stimulating minutes. Not all are as predictable as this, I agree. In an earlier post I mentioned the Thai Twink series which involved quite a number of guys and in which the various scenes were shorter and more ‘interesting’. A couple of these remain amongst my favourites, as does one on the Japanese Surf Surf Revolution series. I throw most out almost as soon as I have seen them, and only retain a collection of a few dozen. However, I realised the other day that I rarely bring any of them out, preferring instead that ‘thrill’ of fast-forwarding to yet another coupling, avoiding the longueurs in the build up. I wonder how many posters purchase dvds. If so, do you generally watch them from beginning to end, letting the programmed ‘drama’ unfold naturally without hitting the fast-forward button regularly? And once seen a couple of times, do you collect them and tend to go back to them from time to time? Or do they end up in the trash as you search out another new vdo happy ending? Bob Posted March 27, 2011 Share Posted March 27, 2011 I probably didn't buy the first one until I was at least 30 and tossed them all out before I was 50 (got to the point where I wasn't watching any of them anyway and I suppose I either wanted the space for other use or didn't want somebody stumbling onto them). I had maybe 15-20 of them at most. And haven't bought another one (and, come to think of it, don't remember when I even last saw a location or store that was selling any of them....although I'm guessing people buy such stuff on the internet these days?). And, yea, I'd skip ahead to the "good parts" when I did watch them. But I think part of that is something genetic about a male with a remote control in his hands.... I eventually went around a number of public washrooms in shopping malls dropping a few in the trash each time!! I hope the cleaners enjoyed them. Japan seems to offer a vast selection of pornographic DVDs, but unfortunately the law requires the private parts are obscured. I wish they would do export versions. Actually, even in the large gay shops in Berlin, there are very few gay Asian videos on offer. I've watched a few other clips from gaytube & the like. Also picked up a couple of DVDs on Dongtan beach. Personally I would like to see DVDs concentrating on more tasteful nudity & less of the rimming. Japan seems to offer a vast selection of pornographic DVDs, but unfortunately the law requires the private parts are obscured. I have never worked out the origin of that law. There are some uncensored export versions available but I find they have to be ordered in from distributors in the US. I also find that the pixilation on many DVDs is now more like slightly fuzzy glass with not much left to the imagination - unlike some years ago. There is also some sort of underground unofficial porn called 'urabon' which generally has no masking. Interesting fact on wikipedia. These will be among the binned casualties when I put my stuff into storage for the duration of my upcoming stay in LOS. Dont want to bring them over, dont want them in storage either. Truth be told there are maybe only about half a dozen I will "miss" in any way and even then only a few parts of a few scenes from those. As for watching them all the way through I'm not sure that I've done that with any of them. I think some of them I got from start to finish in 10 minutes and never looked at again. Bottom line is if I don't like the participants then they're of no use. I concur with a comment of a previous post that those with Asian guys are quickly spoiled when farang are involved. Again, I've yet to see a good Asian sex scene in any dvd. They all seem to be formulaic, slow slow eroticism type thing (give me a good hard fuck any day) - not to forget that awful background music.....umm, is this too much information? "Make Love, Not War"...they are taking that quite seriously At first, I would rent VHS tapes so there would be nothing around for the family to find. The "thrill" of furtively slipping into the backroom was OK, but even better was the trek through the public part of the store with my gay video in hand, praying there would be no one I knew in the store. Ah, the joys of closeted life. I would tend to fast forward through these movies, mostly dependent on the particular actor(s) in the scene and what they were doing. There was a brief period when I would buy DVDs, but that was short lived and I have thrown them all away. And, the two twins they have doing videos are sexy! The Thai made videos are horrible and would not waste my money on them. I have yet to find one good company that makes videos in Thailand. However I find some videos degrading and just in poor taste such as most of the videos by privateboymovies.com These I find so degrading and having the old hairy camera man jumping in is such a turnoff. I am very picky, so I can dismiss the majority just by looking at the preview. What remains, there is about 5-10% interesting scenes fromt he total. I only want the data, I don't need a carrier (DVD) for the data as I can store it on my harddrive. That's why I rather search on the internet and do not buy DVDs. There is a lot of free stuff on the internet, and stuff you usually have to pay for (boykakke, privateboymovies, ...) is available for free if you know where to look. I have an underwear fetish, which is not served by the industry. Usually scenes with underwear on or how the underwear comes off are too short or absent. Because of the censorship requiring some degree of pixillation, most vdos linger for many minutes on the guys in their briefs before anything more is revealed.
