Apple's New Announcement coming soon

Recommended Posts

Apple is getting ready to tell the world what we have been waiting for. I think that they will come up with a lighter, faster IPad with a camera. At least that is my hope. The announcement is coming today so as soon as I hear, I'll post here. Keep your fingers crossed fellow Apple addicts!

Not all of the world is waiting for this.

I'm interested in the products of a similar size to the Dell Streak, ie a little larger than an i-phone, hopefully capable of proper web browsing but still fits in a pocket.

Also I hope for the launch of a few 10" Netbooks with HDMI. ie still portable, but with the facility to hook up to those hotel LCD screens.

I dont know where you get your Information from Mr Mike, but all those in the know I speak to, tell me to wait till September forget about this one IPAD 3 is the one you want to worry about not the 2, did you not know that ????

LOL Well, I am not in the know as you are, but I do know this: if you snooze, you loose. Apple is constantly working on revamping its products before the latest version comes out. It is consistent with them. If you wait till September (I am not sure it will even be released then) then you might as well wait till the IPad 4 comes out the following year. ;)

I love my Ipad and I'll be in line to get the new one as well!

I admit in advance I'm going to step on some sacred cows (at least for some).

Steve Jobs is likely brilliant in his field and Apple surely has created and sold millions of products to largely satisfied customers. I've never owned an Apple product (never saw the need) but I've been a little fascinated with Apple and Jobs because for years the people I knew who were Apple afficianados regularly (and often "nerdily") slightly irritated anyone who hadn't joined the cult. I just finished watching the introductory video of Jobs and sidekick introducing the Ipad 2 and I have seen a few of Jobs' prior videos where he was enthusiastically introducing world-ending products.

Maybe I'm alone but, when I watch this kind of orchestrated stuff (often to a crowd of rabid faithful), I get a slight whiff of a neighborhood door-to-door vacuum salesman, a televangelist, and P. T. Barnum. Maybe I'm just too cynical but when Jobs and the audience almost had an orgasm regarding the flippin-fantastic functionality and colors of the new cover for the Ipad, I had to turn it off before I became too nauseated.

Sorry for the interruption.

I'm an Apple sceptic too.

Competition in the tablet & phone market is getting stronger.

Something more like the next upgrade of the Dell Streak would be more interesting for me.

I have owned just about every gadget that a modern man can own. I love gadgets. I am a gadget whore. I once purchased all of them that were non Apple. Like most, I got my first Apple under distress as a friend insisted I give it a try. My livelihood is based on the Internet and to have my computer down is almost like death. It took me a few months to get use to the Apple, but once I did, I will say that it was the best business move I made. The products don't break, die or get viruses. The customer support is excellent and the warranty is easy to apply. If you live in the USA, the Mac Stores will spend time with you to help you with anything you need.

I can't think of one Apple product that I have not tried. They all gave me what I expected and more. The IPad was no exception. It performed better than I thought and I use it more than I thought.

I understand that some make look at Jobs announcement as a sales pitch, and it is. But, it is also to cool investors that Apple is till making the same quality products they always have. After Jobs got on stage, Apple stock went up 5 USD.

Jobs is brilliant and Apple is great. Their products are more expensive than windows based products but they kick ass on quality and reliability.

keep drinking the Kool-Aid

while Apple's marketing success, brand loyalty and fanboi base may be the envy of most of their competitors there is nothing magic about Apple's products, it is their lack of market share that makes such claims easy to make!

like all companies that design, assemble and have sub-contractors manufacture components, Apple have had in the past and will continue to have hardware quality issues. however as they have a very limited product range and typically less than 15% of market share in any market they are in, problems with 2-3% of their components is fairly insignificant compared with the same 2-3% for their competitors with 5-10 times the number of products and significantly higher market share!

similarly there is no magic protecting Apple's operating systems and software - there have been, there are, and there will continue to be significant security issues with OS X and iOS, just as there are with Windows and Linux, but again if you are a malware or virus author are you going to attack a product with 10% market share or 70% market share? but look for this to change as smartphones, including the iPhone, become the easier and thus more attractive attack point for corporate networks!

I love my HP 13" Windows Vista notebook and my Samsung Galaxy S Android phone as useful business tools and they are better value for money for me and more useful than an iPhone 4 or a MacBook, but that is a personal opinion and I don't think Samsung or HP are any more perfect than Apple is - perhaps because of a lack of Kool-Aid from these suppliers!

I would also love a tablet to play with, so an iPad 2 could still be my first Apple purchase because the competitor products available now or on the horizon for this year are just so disappointing, but my philosophical objections to Apple's business model may still prevail because their media content subscription issues may end up blocking much of the content I want access to on a tablet! and Thailand's lack of real 3G connections is also a problem!

That was not nice! Why attack Steve Jobs?

I think it was meant with a little humor. Steve Jobs is obviously a brilliant guy and I hope he has an excellent conclusion to whatever illnesses he's been battling in the last few years. That being said, there are some that are upset that he has been unusually coy about these illnesses - taking murky leaves of absence from the company, telling investors just enough to make them fear the worst, etc. I can understand why he would want to maintain his privacy about his medical condition(s) but, given he is Apple, not all of the investors see it that way. Rather a tough issue to handle properly by anybody.

I never understood from the beginning why they called this product an Ipad or any kind of "pad." Sounded like a very personal feminine product to me.

With so many tablets coming on to the market making a decision as to which one to get is boggling. I am neither an Apple lover nor Apple hater, but just don't know if the Ipad will do what I want to do.

I think my main use for the device will be to serve as a media player. I have an extensive video collection downloaded from the internet and stored on a portable hard drive. Will these play on an Ipad or any other tablet? If they will, since the Ipad doesn't seem to have a USB port, how can I transfer them to the Ipad? To view movies on an Ipad is it necessary to purchase them from Itunes? Will I run into the same compatibility problem if I purchase another brand of tablet?

If anyone knows the answer to these questions I'd sure appreciate the information. Also, if the Ipad doesn't work for me, what brand would you suggest?

Yes, if they are avi or other formats, I use them all on my IPad.

It has a connector that all IPads, IPods, etc use that connects it to the USB on your computer and it is a fairly fast way to transfer data.

To view movies on an Ipad is it necessary to purchase them from Itunes?

No, it is not necessary. I have friends that put all their movies and TV shows on the IPad to watch and they download for the torrents.

I really do not think that is quite accurate, Bob. Perhaps it was when he made his first ‘disappearance’, but we all know that he had cancer of the pancreas – almost certainly one with the lowest survival rates – and was given a liver transplant. I don’t think anyone needs be more specific than that.

the one-year relative survival rate is 20%, and the five-year rate is 4%

http://www.pancreatic.org/site/c.htJYJ8MPIwE/b.891917/k.5123/Prognosis_of_Pancreatic_Cancer.htm

On the other hand, knowing the severity of his illness, what surely is of more importance to investors is the line of succession. And there he and the Apple Board have been, I think, close to negligent in not providing more information.

when I watch this kind of orchestrated stuff (often to a crowd of rabid faithful), I get a slight whiff of a neighborhood door-to-door vacuum salesman, a televangelist, and P. T. Barnum

Sounds like you are admonishing him for making what many believe to be a brilliant sales pitch! Like it or not, those media events are eagerly anticipated and get mega worldwide television coverage both before and after the event. What’s so wrong with that? I’ll bet they alone sell millions of Apple products! And is it really any different from Warren Buffett's annual Berkshire Hathaway shindig with the guru himself tucking into McDonalds and happily serenading shareholders on his ukelele?

they have a very limited product range

I started out with pcs but then had to change to Apple when I started working for a company which used Apple in its worldwide offices. Like Mike and others, I was hooked almost immediately. I agree to a certain extent with bkkguy, though, about the product range. I’d love to have a smaller, lighter and cheaper notebook. I don’t need all the bells and whistles on the Macbook Air, the other laptops are still a lot heavier than competitors’ models, yet I need more than the iPad offers when I am travelling.

Apple's next new product is iPancreas?

bkkguy

If you had known anyone die of pancreatic cancer, as I have, I suggest you would not have made that comment – not even in jest.

I wish him personally the best; but what I said was quite accurate. He is Apple to a lot of investors and the stock dips with every rumor about his health.

My comment concerned merely the first of your two related comments - the exact nature of his illness/illnesses rather than the effect this has on investors. Anyone who has suffered from pancreatic cancer, which has been admitted in Steve Jobs' case, has en extremely low chance of surviving more than 5 years, as the article I posted pointed out. So investors who assume he will be at the helm for much longer, the more so in light of his physical appearance in the last couple of years, are being wholly unrealistic. So you factor your investment decisions in that light.

Re the succession, I agree the Apple Board should do something - but what? I don't know, for I also accept the point made in The Telegraph article about possible poaching of a nominated successor by other competitors. And is not Apple in the same boat as Berkshire Hathaway where Buffett has also consistently refused to name his successor? And surely Berkshire Hathaway is as much about Buffett as Apple is about Jobs?

The truth is that Apple is Great American company. While BKKguy is probably correct that not all their products are best in their class but it is also true that Apple created a brand with millions of followers all over the world and the company was innovative in introducing new types of products.

America badly needs more brilliant enterpreneurs like Steve Jobs and less community organizers, union activists and lawyers.

Really? I think it is the community leaders, union activists and lawyers that keeps America from the deep abyss. IMHO, the republicans would happily destroy all civil rights, liberties and the Constitution in order to have a more religious America. To hell with them. They will burn in the hell I don't believe in. :)

Your viewpoint would definitely make sense under certain circumstances. Unfortunately, we are already in deep abyss and above mentioned groups push us even deeper. I never was able to understand this silly game Republicans vs Democrats. This is probably how ruling elite keeps its power... You need to move beyond this stereotyping...

And I am pretty sure that you are familiar great Libertarian concept...

I like to choose the lesser of two evils. Republicans are evil to the core. IMHO, they are Satan incarnate. Democrats are simply little demons. They have not reached Satan stature yet and they still have a bit of grace. If it is a choice between the lesser of two evils, there is no choice.

However, in a perfect world, I am a Socialist.

Believe it or not, I agree with the major sentiment of your post except for last phrase.

Socialists and Marxists are evil to the core. Believe me, I lived in Marxist state for 35 years and I know what I am talking about. I agree with your concept of less of two evils. However, at this historical moment America NEEDS TO LIVE WITHIN ITS MEANS. This is the major priority that trumps everything else. In my view, you simply do not comprehend what the consequences will be if this condition is not met. And I am talking about our nearest future...

I just hate the adversarial system in US politics - and in most political systems, for that matter. Every single programme one sees on TV has to have one rep from the Republicans and another from the Democrats - or someone screams "unfair". They then present their entrenched positions and start arguing. Nothing concrete results. This is not reasoned debate. It's who can shout the loudest! It's all so ridiculously childish!

Occasionally you get a couple of more moderate politicians - and that's such a relief. When you look at the horrendous mess politicians have made in the US, Iceland, Ireland, the UK, Greece, Portugal etc., there surely has to be a more effective way of governance in this day and age. And yes, I know it was the bankers who caused the most recent disaster. But governments have an oversight and regulatory role, and I do not relieve any of them from blame.
