Yellow fever?

Recommended Posts

While looking 4 flights on avianca, from SP 2 bogota, this note popped up:

"For trips from brazil to colombia, you must carry the Yellow Fever certificate, which must be issued at least 10 days prior to travel."

Anyone knows anything about this? Is it enforced?0

Yes -- it is an entry requirement when arriving from Brasil.  Yes -- it is generally enforced  but I have experienced entry through El Dorado airport where they do not ask.

The issue is not the immigration officers in Colombia but the check-in staff at the airport in Brazil, notably at GRU. If the flight is overbooked or it is otherwise convenient to offload pax, check-in staff will deny you boarding on flights from Brazil to Colombia if you are unable to show proof of YF vaccination. Mind you this is just flights from Brazil to Colombia we are talking about. For flights  elsewhere to Colombia, YF vaccination is not required.

I know from personal experience that it is enforced at the AV check-in counters at GRU. Luckily, I had my yellow vacc booklet with me so it was not an issue, but I witnessed others (foreigners) being refused check-in because no YF vaccine certificate/proof.

It’s a precaution or relative contraindication as opposed to absolute contraindication. I received my vaccination over the age of 60 even though it was to satisfy the requirement rather than anticipating the likelihood of yellow fever exposure. I wouldn’t risk travel to Colombia from Brazil without a contraindication certificate.

Or at the very least present at Brazilian check-in the summary statement from the Colombia health ministry that suggests contraindication over age 60, although discretionary vaccination age 60-65.
