Popular Post reader Posted October 21 Author Popular Post Posted October 21 Stopped by the new bar shortly after 9p.m. I chose a table (Semicircular banquet type that can sit four comfortably). the waiter (one of three) gave me a menu that offered a good selection of beers and I selected an Asahi (150, same as local brew prices). When he put by bill in cup he also deliver small bowl of chips. There were two customers at bar and four young Asian guys at another table. it wasn’t long before waiter started conversation with usual questions. Then asked me if he could sit with me, confirming suspicion that this was indeed a host bar. I declined tbh because I knew I wasn’t interested and was there on an information gathering mission. The other waiters also stopped by but I was busy on my phone. There was local pop music on sound system, not at an obnoxious level that would inhibit conversation but still a bit annoying to old man like myself. The manager who was teaching bartenders to use register is a farang. And on the subject of bartenders, there are two and I believe that’s where the talent is. That’s where I’d sit on any future visit. khaolakguy, stijntje, 10tazione and 5 others 6 2 Quote

Popular Post reader Posted December 1 Author Popular Post Posted December 1 Dragon and Koi is showing signs of resilience with steadily increasing customer flow. Made my fourth visit last night and counted six hosts (who also double as dancers) on hand. They’re all attractive, friendly and eager to keep you company. All but one speaks English. The customer drinks are reasonably priced and boy drinks about half of what show bars charge. Although they can’t be offed, they seem open to meeting customers after shop closes at 2. Popular Post Raposa Posted December 7 Popular Post Posted December 7 Two other forum members and me tested out the bar again today. The vibe is definitely more upbeat, and the dancing more choreographed. Several new hosts had started recently too. The hosts seem to enjoy working together. All in all a much better experience than last weekend. reader, khaolakguy, 10tazione and 2 others 5 Quote

Tips given to them during dance routines. Don’t be surprised if they physically invite you to do impromptu dance with them! Tips from socializing with customer at table. commission on drinks customer buys for them. personally I spent about 2K in tips over three hour period last night and another 2K for drinks and my share of bottle. Evivalent to drinks, off fee and tips at many bars but I had a much better experience. Can’t afford to do that every night but the atmosphere worked for me and two other forum members. We all left with terrific memories of those sweaty bodies clinging to us. But you don’t have to be active participant. You can chose just to buy reasonably priced drink on observe the action. pong2, khaolakguy, bkkmfj2648 and 2 others 5 Quote

Like reader's mentioned, and im pretty sure if the guys are happy with just dancing and drinks for tips, they will be content with the tips they made. I do hope the bars do pay them a fixed income, at least minimum wages. Quote

Don’t know for fact but since they can’t be offed during working hours I, too, would like to think that they get compensated for their well choreographed and energetic dance routines. Quote

The key operative 2 words being = "minimum wages". Many of the guys here in Jomtien have repeatedly told me that the bar pays them a sub minimum wage of 100 baht per day --> when the real wage should be 363 baht per day. Perhaps, the management at the Dragon and Koi is paying them fairly? 🤔 Quote
