Guest fountainhall Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 Many media sources are reporting Nelson Mandela's admission to hospital yesterday and his ex-wife, Winnie, being in tears as she left after visiting him. Speculation yesterday about the state of the 92-year old's health was rife but today's news seems to be a bit more encouraging. How much of this is 'spin', only his close family will know. I am sure, however, that everyone wishes him all the very best. Apart from his courage and vision, he is in my view the closest the world has to a moral conscience. http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/jan/27/nelson-mandela-hospital-south-africa Quote

Guest fountainhall Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 I think you have missed the instruction from Scooby at the head of the Gay Thailand Board regarding posting of topics. It reads - "Please start all posts in the main Gay Thailand Forum. After the thread has run its course, we will then move it to the appropriate forum." That is the only reason this and several other posts of mine have not started on more relevant forums. Quote
Rogie Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 Good news! South African former President Nelson Mandela has been discharged from a hospital where he spent two nights. Surgeon General Vejaynand Ramlakan said Mr Mandela, 92, was suffering from ailments that were common in people his age but was in good spirits. On Friday Mr Ramlakan said Mr Mandela had suffered a respiratory infection, but was responding well to treatment and would be receiving home-based care. "To us he is stable, but will be subject to intense monitoring," he told reporters. "Medically, at present, there is no need to panic," he added. A few comments from South Africans: It's wonderful news. In a sense he is the one holding the country together," Johannesburg resident Brandon Quinn told the BBC. Lerato Ledwaba, a 20-year-old university student, also expressed her joy: "As a young person in South Africa, Madiba means the world to me - he is my inspiration to strive for a better life for myself." "I am constantly surprised by his strength. He is old but we are not ready to lose him. I don't know if we'll ever have another leader like him," said another Johannesburg resident Karen van Rensburg, 50. Source: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-12306753 Thought for the day: With the world a seemingly less safe and comforting place, and world leaders in low esteem, wouldn't it be wonderful if every country had a leader of the calibre of Nelson Mandela. _________________________________________________________ Regarding the notice from Scooby referred to by Fountainhall, I looked to see when it was posted but it is undated. My recollection is it's been there for several weeks. I fail to see the point in proposing a new way of processing posts if only to be followed by such a long period of inactivity. The Board is clogging up. The old system with 3 Forums worked well enough - but that doesn't mean it can't be changed, of course not, but if a change is proposed then why sit on it? The furious activity stemming from the new admin in his early days has been replaced by inertia. At least, that's the way it looks to me. Quote

I don't know why the rule was introduced and assume there was a good reason. As Rogie says, the Gay Thailand Board is clogging up. Surely, mods, we can go back to the old system of posting into different Boards? Quote
