ceejay Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 Does anyone have any recommendations, please? I may be heading there in June. I can do all the Google and Tripadvisor checks, etc., but any personal recommendations would be gratefully received. Quote

I have attended this festival several times and I have tried different lodging venues. I once stayed at gecko villa - a private villa in udon thani on my first trip and the villa owner drove me to dan sai - a 3 hours drive in each direction. The villa is lovely - you even get your own personal chef - but it is too far from Dan Sai to be practical. I also stayed at the Loei Palace Hotel in Loei and took the local bus back and forth to Dan Sai - about 1 hour each way. This past year I stayed in Dan Sai at Phu Na Come Resort - a lovely secluded resort on top of one of the hills outside the town of Dan Sai. They have daily van service to town and they will also pick you up if you call back to the hotel and tell them your location in town. I highly recommend this resort - staff was most helpful. But you are limited to meals at the restaurant and there is nothing else around after dark. If you decide to stay here, book one of their Isaan houses - they have 2 regular hotel buildings and several Isaan style houses that sit up on a hill a small distance from the main hotel - the houses are very private - they have actual water buffalos that you have to pass to get to these houses. I think they only ahve about 20 rooms in total. Phu Na Come was the most convenient place to get to and from the festival and the accomodations were great and the staff was super friendly. Quote
ceejay Posted January 15, 2011 Author Posted January 15, 2011 Thanks Buckaroo. Yes, it is for the Phi Ta Khon Festival. I'm checking this out now because I know you have to book very early. Phu Na Come looks great - maybe I'll spoil myself with a few days there (exchange rates allowing) Quote
