Jason1988 Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 That is quite a good photo of someone 49. Perhaps it is his photo but when he was 29. Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 As I suggested, it's probably been airbrushed. There is another photo of him inside and he looks older, but certainly he's aged well. The accompanying article says: "His face is smooth and youthful, despite his unbelievable 49 years." Quote
Moses Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 Is it new "version" of "Spicy in Thailand" which been closed for copyright law? Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 Is it new "version" of "Spicy in Thailand" which been closed for copyright law? Not sure. Spice had its registered address in Jomtien, I believe. Out is based in Chiang Mai. I don't recognise the names of the editors and contributors, but I guess these could be noms de plume. The graphic design is certainly different - and nicer in my view. Quote
TotallyOz Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 I saw the magazine last night and I thought it was nice. There is a lot of gossip going around about the magazine but I hope the owners are smart enough to post on the boards to let us know if the mag is legit and going to be around for a while. The pics were nice and it is great to have the information available in magazine form. Lets hope this magazine doesn't take some of the articles and posts written for this site and use it without permission! I am not saying that has happened in the past. Well, I guess I was saying that. Quote
Guest brandon Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 Just seen a copy - looks better lay out than Spice but still similar, not so much advertising yet but am sure that will increase and then the editorial will decrease. There are 4 maps of Pattaya (greater Pattaya, Jomtien, Sunee & Boyztown) as opposed to one map in Bangkok!!??!! What about a map and listings in Ramkhamheng (as in Thai Puan)? Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 What about a map and listings in Ramkhamheng (as in Thai Puan)? Thai Puan seems more geared towards a mixed Thai/farang readership with some sections in Thai whereas Out is only in English. My understanding is most of the establishments in Ramkhamhaeng are more Thai-for-Thai. However, you have indeed highlighted one issue which I hope the editor will address in later issues, because the Bangkok listing is represented only by one map covering the Suriwong/Silom/Sathorn area. Nothing either for Sukhumvit. I also think it should include maps of the Skytrain and subway stations, as Thai Puan does. Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 After writing to the editor, I received a nice note back saying in future issues he will include a Skytrain/subway map, along with maps of other main Bangkok gay areas. Quote
Guest brandon Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 I am sure the publication will improve as time goes on, it is a good addition. Quote
TotallyOz Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 This is something that is very much needed in Thailand and I wish them great luck and success! I hope they are able to stay afloat and keep the magazine moving and improving. Quote

However, i know you were caught by surprise as almost everyone--including those in Hua Hin--was. Great magazine and do keep up the good work. Quote

However, i know you were caught by surprise as almost everyone--including those in Hua Hin--was. Great magazine and do keep up the good work. Dear KhorTose, Many thanks for those kind and encouraging words. You're quite right about the Hua Hin business and it is now my understanding that only The Red Indian Bar remains in the whole resort. Looks like our intentions, though good, were misplaced and Hua Hin will no longer merit a place in our guide section. I have been told that there are a number of popular gay venues in Hat Yai and if we can find someone down there to research the listings, that may be an area that we can feature. It is also terribly exciting to have had requests from both Singapore and Hong Kong distributors who want to stock OUT iT in both those locations- a great chance for OUT iT advertisers to attract more vistors to their businesses in Thailand. Best wishes, James Barnes. Quote

PM poster Smiles and he'll give you all the latest Hua Hin news. Little Choices closed at the end of business on the 20th of December. Within a few days, SM Bar opened (a gay bar) on the west side of the road north of the railroad tracks north of the big/regular night market, Rainbow Bar (a sorta gay bar - one of the two owners is gay and they are catering to the gay crowd too) on Soi 80 opened, and then Grasshopper Bar (between the old Guys Bar and Little Choices) hired two of the then-ex staff of Little Choices and sorta became a gay bar. And it appeared somebody was working on the Little Choices space but heck if I know if anything has happened there as yet. As I said, ask Khun Smiles and he shall reveal all. P.S. Khun "Tam" on page 15 is a real stunner. Unfortunately, a few Thai boys the other night were making comments about our (Khun Khortose and myself) larger "one-packs" compared to Khun Tam's six-pack.... Quote

Dear Bob, Firstly, may I empathise with your 'one-pack' story? I injured my back in the first week of December and was not able to take my first tentative, painful steps until New Year's day. Nearly 5 weeks of sedentary, enforced bed rest, together with all the festive fare has produced a waistline that will require a 2011 battle of the bulge for yours truly. Scant comfort last night when my better half inserted an agitated digit into my navel causing a most unattractive wobble that measured high on the rectum scale, even though his chocolate eyes melted and smiling, he said, 'Sexy!' As for Hua Hin, maybe we can conduct a mini poll here? With such a small gay scene in such a small resort, is it worth OUT iT publishing a map and listings for the area in the guide section? Comments invited.... Many thanks, James Barnes. Quote

With such a small gay scene in such a small resort, is it worth OUT iT publishing a map and listings for the area in the guide section? Probably not, at least not without a disclaimer that the scene is small there so that any of the often-happening changes do alter the picture quite a bit. Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 I agree with Bob. A map is certainly not necessary. Maybe a listing with some reasonably exact directions. And that could perhaps also be complemented by listings in Udon, Khon Kaen and anywhere else with bars or saunas of interest. I know from experience, though, that directions that are easy to follow are rare in gay guides, alas. Quote

Guest JamesBarnes Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 OUT iT has learned that Jim Lumsden is unwell. The whole team wishes him a very speedy recovery. Quote
Guest anonone Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 May be a silly question, but anyone know where I can get a copy of OUT iT in Pattaya / Jomtien area? Not sure if it distributed through gay venues, at bookstore, etc. I will be back next week and this appears to be excellent beach reading material. Many thanks. Quote

Dear anonone, OUT iT was delivered to all gay venues in Pattaya/Jomtien two weeks ago but it seems that despite 2,600 copies being sent there, demand has been very high and some places may have none left. If you cannot find a copy, you can read it online by registering free at www.out-in-thailand.com If you cannot use your computer on the beach, please let me know and I will find a copy for you. Enjoy! Best wishes, Quote

I am sure I will come across a copy as I do tend to frequent many gay venues while in Pattaya Actually, I will probably check out the on-line version before heading back to Thailand...whet the appetite, so to speak. Guest JamesBarnes Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 Dear You, The February issue is due to be finished at the printer today and all 10,000 copies will soon be making their way to bookstores, Singapore, Hong Kong and a Thai gay venue near you. Demand will be high so be sure to get your copy next week! Best wishes, Quote
