Olddaddy Posted September 22 Posted September 22 A few months ago I went into Lumpini park and went into the railway station Silom🚝🚅 I recall lining up ,I remember the ticket lady saying I could you my visa card to tap on tap off but I can't remember 💳 Anyone know if I can buy a weekly ticket or day ticket instead of lining up or using the machines ? I want to travel on all of them This week I'm going to have to do some research I guess into the transport in BKK Quote

I seem to recall having to tap near the office, if that makes any sense. This was the MRT. The Subway. As far as I know, however, this does not work on the skytrain. For the BTS , years ago, I got a rabbit card from the ticket office. And then I just top it up when needed. The Web says a rabbit card can be used on the yellow and pink lines, but is unclear as to other lines . I don't think it works on the Subway. Easily checked when you are there. Typical not to have one ticketing system, but even Tokyo has two subway operators, where different tickets are needed! TMax, vinapu and Olddaddy 3 Quote

thaiophilus Posted September 23 Posted September 23 If you're over 60 you can get half-price fares on MRT (but not BTS unless you are Thai.) You need to get a "senior" MRT stored-value card - tapping in and out on a credit card will charge the full fare. Olddaddy and tm_nyc 2 Quote

Lotusleaf Posted September 24 Posted September 24 During my recent visit to Bangkok I was denied the senior's fare when buying tokens at the MRT ticket booth. I was told at a number of stations that it was only for Thai citizens. I was surprised that as a foreigner I was even able to get this discount before. vinapu 1 Quote

I've always been told that for BTS half price, you need to be Thai. A friend who lives in Bangkok confirmed that for me. Didn't know about MTR, will try on next visit. Quote
