I second Kanchanaburi and Erewan waterfalls, but Grindr was slim pickings when I was there. Only had one hook-up in the three or four days I was there last year. I took a very old train there from BKK. It was very cheap - actually the taxi fare from station to Silom hotel was more than the actual train ride. I love train rides - they are a great way to see the landscape.

I've been on that train. Atmospheric,  I agree, but unreliable!

Please try the other apps, Hornet and Heesay (formerly Blued) - especially when in remote areas.  These 2 apps tend to appeal to the Thai-for-Thai segment.  But, many of these can also be persuaded to play with us foreigners - especially if you are willing to use a translation tool.  Heesay has one built directly into the app.

Grindr tends to be more popular in the larger urban areas where the escorts intentionally want to make contact with foreigners.

It is quite useless on Kwai because there is national park around and almost no villages/towns.

There are a lot of monkeys on Erawan waterfall. So many, that tourists are advised not to leave anything unattended while they take bath in waterfalls.  Monkey are walking within tourists totally without any afraid. Glasses, cameras, cloths - everything will be stolen if you will leave something on the stones while taking bath.

When I went there I didn't see any monkeys but having been swimming in one of the many pools, I saw a Monitor Lizard paddling about and crawled out of the water. It wasn't a threat and a great experience to see 👌😎

Erawan falls is a must do along with everything else in Kanchanaburi......it's a gem of a place to visit and very humbling, especially the 'death railway' tour and the amazing museum  👌🥹

Sure, but these floating villas are located 60-70 km on the north from the city

Everyone that I have spoken to was very enthusiastic,  but as said, if you want company, take him with you!

Find a compatible travel companion and he can change your trip experience more than you might imagine no matter where you're headed.

Exactly.  Since 2015 when I started visiting Thailand and now since 2022 where I now live here full time - some of my BEST trips in Thailand were:

  • massage guys that I convinced to change their job duties and become my tour guides - we made 2 distinct trips in the northern provinces with Woody and his partner Non - where later on, Woody became a tour guide for Siam Roads,
  • by visiting some of the beautiful Thai islands of; Koh Larn, Koh Samet, Koh Chang, and Koh Tao - where these trips were made with some local Jomtien masseurs and also with my Jomtien Dongtan beach volleyball guys,
  • Last New Year (2023 into 2024) I employed 2 Thai guys that I found in Twitter (X) and Hornet - to be my tour guides for 17 days when I ventured into the extreme deep south of Thailand (Songkhla and Phatthalung provinces),
  • and just 2 days ago, a quick trip up to Ayutthaya to visit 9 amazing Wat temples with my 2 cleaning ladies and one of their husbands.

As @reader wrote above - my trip experiences were most DEFINITELY enriched where I had experiences in local Thai culture and contact with people that I would have never had contact with had I travelled alone.  Furthermore, I felt more safe and looked after (especially for the deep south trip where there is still some ongoing insurgent unrest).

For example, in the Ayutthaya trip I was introduced to a local (now national) star, whose name is:  Kalamae or Calamae (transliteration spelling issues).

This guy opened a small toffee type of candy shop on the grounds of the Ayutthaya temple = Wat Mongkhon Bophit where she/he dances to the song Da Da Da.  She became so famous for her candy, dance, and then posting potential "lucky" numbers for Thai lottery - that she became a national star who appeared on national Thai TV.

And when he speaks - the voice is so high pitched and very unique.

Furthermore, I learned about the Ayutthaya famous Roti Sai Mai - type of cotton candy served in a crepe - VERY famous in this part of Thailand.
