Sauna and Onsen Hopping in Bangkok

Recommended Posts

Hi All, wanted to share some of my research into Bangkok sauna group events which seems to follow a clockwork.  Krubb in particular has models / OF stars appearing on the signature Fire party event which involve a Go Go dance and really ‘open invitation’ for a group activity.  I am thinking of just going there during my visit and just walk around and be a fly in the wall lol 😂

For the all men onsen, think it is primarily for gay cruising spot although it can just be a place just to chill/relax and window shop for eye candies.  I am not too sure about the prevalence of MB in these spots - my guess that its not too common.

Gay Saunas Schedule

Friday: 39 Underground (Mask Party)

Saturday: Krubb  (Fire Party)

Sunday: Sauna Mania (Foam Party)

Monday: R3 (Mask Party)

All Men Onsen listing

Kaikan Onsen - well reviewed - seems clean and more popular than the others

Kino Sento

Maxwell Onsen

Zen Onsen

Ryuu Onsen

During my recent stay in Bangkok I went to Krubb over 2 successive weekends. Weekend visits entitle you to a free admission pass during the week, which I took advantage of once.

It was teeming with men at the weekend, but nowhere as busy during the week.

Saturday and Sunday offered free cocktails at 8pm on the top floor, but if you loiter there too long, you will miss out on the show which takes place at the same time on a lower floor. One night the star of the show was an off-season bodybuilder,  who started posing and it wasn't long before he was being fondled and caressed by hungry guys. Before you knew it, he was a top and a bottom at the same time. After the show finished, many guys ended up in the dark room for more action.

It's quite a long way from Silom by BTS. I was staying in On Nut for a week, which was the next stop

Be warned that there are many stairs, as it's a five storey building.

Thanks,  can you comment on the crowd type? Can everyone have fun despite not being the most fit lol

@Verchiele I shall be looking forward to your reports.

Whilst I have heard some reports of the burgeoning "onsen" scene in Bangkok, I have never been to any. No interest ever, even though I am a fan of true Japanese onsens.

I've heard that - maybe you'll confirm in due course - whilst the original rules in the Bangkok places were full nakedness like in Japan, it was impossible to demand it in the Thai places, so now there is an uncomfortable mix of naked and covered men. Moreover, despite a lot of mutual looking, the places are very strict on new-found couples progressing to "action".

Also (if I may be an onsen snob 😉) , what the Thais call an "onsen" is not a true onsen, since a true onsen uses mineralised water from geothermal sources - and indeed the water feels different. Using municipal water and warming it up does not count.

I take your point about onsen, but even some of the well known  onsen in Tokyo do not have access to mineralised/volcanic water, so they have to cheat, so to speak.  My best experience  was outside  Tokyo,  in the Mountains,  where we played golf in the morning. And had our onsen, on the slopes of a nearby volcano. In the snow! Magical.

Virtually all the big city bathhouses are only "onsen" in the English language. The Japanese are quite fastidious to refer to the municipal water bathhouses by a different name: Sento (銭湯). Other terms I have seen are "Hot baths" or "artificial onsen" or "man-made onsen".

I don't know if there is a law about labelling, but in Japan, Onsen (温泉) is used narrowly to mean what it means.

That said, I have seen cheats (yes. In Japan!) I have seen a city bathhouse say it trucks spring water in from a mountain spring some distance away. They probably add a cupful of spring water to each tub, and try to get away with calling itself an onsen. Haha. But then, that it had to say something about trucking in water from afar tells me they've probably been accused of false advertising.

The crowd on the days I went was predominantly youngish Asians, but there were quite a few Europeans there too. There were  some athletic and muscular physiques, but also lots of twinky types and guys of all shapes and sizes. But definitely there was a far greater crowd at the weekend rather than during weekdays.
