TotallyOz Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 I went to 7 bars last night in Boyztown. Out of the 7, there was fewer than one guy I was willing to off. The only bar that I went to that had boys on stage and appearing to enjoy dancing was Happy Place. It was also the only one I went into with customers. The rest of the bars were dismal, sad and depressing. I did not go into any of the bars on the main road in Boyztown as they had a party going on and there was a fee to get inside. The chairs look sparely filled the 3 times I looked inside to see the show area. I wonder when they have a party like this why they have no one intelligent enough to really advertise it on all the boards? Why do the bar owners in this area avoid the gay Thailand boards? Why do organizers of these events spend time to organize an extravaganza and yet are so poor at promoting it? If it were me, I'd be using even means necessary to promote these events and that includes using every message board. While it may not bring in thousands of new people, it would let members who are interested in the events know they are happening. IMHO, they do a piss poor job at advertising all these events. The same can really be said for most bars in Pattaya. As far as the bars go last night, the doormen were anxious to get me inside but I didn't stay more than 5 minutes in any bar as there were not only no superstars but no decent looking guys at all. Happy Place was the only bar that I did enjoy the time I spent there. The rest were a total waste of time. Quote
Guest beachlover Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 The owner posts as Unkiebuckie over at www.sawatdee-gay-thailand.com Colourful character and quite open and honest. Quote
Guest Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 I went to all the other bars in Boyztown tonight. I have now been into every bar on those 3 Sois. I will not make comments on tonight as I found the same as last night with the other bars. It was pretty slim pickings. I did enjoy the show at BoyzBoyzBoyz. I was not happy when the waiter in that bar substituted a fountain coke for the Diet Coke I ordered and promised me it was a Diet Coke. I know the difference and when questioned about it he brought over the diet coke can which was full. That is the last time I'll step foot in that bar (this year or next) as I hate being conned and considering they were charging over 10 times what the Diet Coke cost, there was no need to lie. That is how customers are lost and IMHO stupid for any bar to allow and a piss poor way to treat customers. Quote

Must be because he owns the real estate that he can afford to keep the doors open. Talk about ruining a Good Thing!!!!!! Quote
Guest dale1 Posted December 3, 2010 Posted December 3, 2010 Don't know when you looked into the Pattaya Pride Street Party ....... it was packed and one of the best ......... 700,000 baht was raised for HIV/AID-related charities including contributions by several very generous individual donors. Guest RichLB Posted December 3, 2010 Posted December 3, 2010 Just a couple comments... Rather than boycott BBB, I'm pretty sure the owner was/is not aware of substituting a fountain coke for a can of Diet Coke. I'm guessing he'd like to know if that is going on and would put a stop to it immediately. As to the quality of available boys, I'm sure you recognize that one man's dud may be another man's ideal. I agree I rarely find guys who appeal to me in most of the gogo bars, but hey, that's most probably more a case of my odd tastes than the hiring practice of the bars. And finally, about the bars being lifeless... I confess I find them the same way. In years past, the layout of bars made it easy to establish eye contact with the guys and banter with them while they were on stage. That made a visit to a bar fun for me. Now, however, the bars have moved the customers away from the stage and placed lights which blind the "audience" and make contact even more difficult. Somehow, bar owners think it's enough to fill the stage with listless guys who either do nothing beyond shifting from foot to foot or, in more ribald venues, waving their willies about. I think, unless your hormones are raging that night, that all gets old pretty quickly. I urge the bars to teach the guys how to flirt and make them a fun place to visit over and over. Quote

That is fantastic. I am happy a great deal of money was raised. I was not trying to be critical of the event. But, if the idea was to raise the most money possible, the organizers should have used every means possible to promote the event. I was not referring to just this event but for any event that is held. That being said, I am not an event planner in Thailand and things may work differently here than they did in NYC when I would help organize events. Things always seem to be run differently here and I am sure there are good reasons for that. I have neither the time nor the desire to organize events in Thailand and my hats go off to anyone who gives their time, effort or money to these great causes. From the photo attached in your post, it looks like a great time was being had by everyone. Had I known in advance, I would have attended as well. I am glad others where there and money was raised. I'm guessing he'd like to know if that is going on and would put a stop to it immediately. I just prefer not to go places that don't treat me well. Years ago, I had a similar experience with Throb/Splash where EVERY time I was there they would add a drink to my group (I had at least 5 or 6 boys with me for the show). It was always a pain in the ass to get the waiter to go over to the cashier and change the bill. After a few times of this, I just stopped going to that bar. It wasn't worth the aggravation to me. I am sure the owners of many bars don't know what is going on but I don't feel my job to tell them. There are too many other bars in the area to deal with shit from any one bar. Funny thing is when you are in a bar in Sunee, I have never had this happen. Quite the opposite in fact. It is almost like the lady in my building who sucks when she was the only market in the building. She was rude, unfriendly, etc. until she had competition. Bars in Boyztown often think they are owed a deference and are the cat's meow. I have never understood that mentality. Funny Boys is not the same and I have always had a good time in that bar, gotten treated fairly and gotten good service. They are consistently top notch IMHO. But, like you said, it is all in the eyes of the beholder. For me, I just don't like going to a place that is going to even attempt to take advantage of me as a customer. There are too many fish in the sea to worry about it and thus why I stayed and enjoyed the show and paid my bill without complaint once I told the waiter he was full of shit about serving me a Diet Coke. It was not a big deal for me to cause to scene. When I can easily walk across the street into a bar with just as many boys or next door to Funny Boys. Quote
Guest beachlover Posted December 3, 2010 Posted December 3, 2010 I agree, GayThailand. It might be something as insignificant as a 200 baht but it's annoying and dishonest and when they do it deliberately it indicates they regard customers like you with contempt. In hindsight, if it was happening repeatedly, I would have asked to speak to the manager and told him it appears this is being done deliberately and you don't intend to return as a result. Quote

As I have suggested in the past, all these bars should have lockable suggestion boxes. That way, even if the owner is off site with other business commitments, he will find out if customers are being conned. Without this, many will just quietly leave, without making a fuss & never return. Quote
gerefan Posted December 5, 2010 Posted December 5, 2010 Throb (now Copa)have padded bills for years. There was a 4 page thread about this a few years ago on Sawatdee. If you are subject to this you MUST complain to the owner (not the head waiter who may well be in on it). If you dont then it will just continue. The usual scam is added items, incorrect addition and short change. It only happens with large rounds, especially when customers have had a few. The answer, as always, is to pay for each round as you order, and to hell with what the waiters thinks. I KNOW they dont like it. Quote

No doubt started by you? i assume you had evidence to back up this claim, which i am sure you submitted to the owners? the reason i ask, is that this is the first time i have heard of anybody claiming to have been cheated there, so if they have been doing it for years, why no other posters? Quite often there are hidden agenda's in these postings, i wonder which one is yours? Quote
