Hey all! Been a lurker here for some time and finally visited Thailand for the first time some at the beginning of August. Been meaning to write this post for a while now, but been procastinating for far too long 😂. Oh well, here we go!

To start, I'm from Latin America but currently live in China and I'm pretty damn young, younger than most bar boys even hahaha. I don't really know why I engage with bar stuff/moneyboys, I really don't need it, but in a somewhat wicked way I do somewhat enjoy the dynamics of it... I don't know 😛 (be it in Thailand, China or back home). Anyway, everyone know's Thailand's fame for this kind of stuff, so I was excited! China's MB scene is quite great, amazing handsome boys that enjoys doing all kinds of stuff, but oh is it expensive!! You can easily spend $400+ for short time, which is not really sustainable

At first, I went to GBEAT Spa. No real reason, but I had a thai friend recommend it to me (I suspect he worked there lol). Prices seemed reasonable, boys were mostly meh but I found one that really caught my eye. Boys were divided into "gay" and "men", which i thought slightly funny lol. The room was nice enough, the boy was super nice but the massage was pretty mediocre and he couldn't for his life find my asshole, my poor perineal!

When it was time to spice things up, I asked to top him and he was utterly confused saying he was never asked to bottom before. Most of the other young tourists I met were backpackers with shit for brains with an insanely high-and-mighty attitude and no respect or common sense whatsoever. Sooo many people that travelled all over the world but seemed to have lever left the same place, idk. The boys themselves were fine but honestly nothing special either, I much prefer the ones back home.

The bar system is quite needlessly overcomplicated and the boys aren't really cheap or hot enough to warrant the price. Back home I can just pay 1800 with no hotel, drinks, off fees and god know what and just fuck with the hottest people you can imagine (and they aren't straight neither will complain if you get 200m too close to their butthole even if by accident). I suppose I'm just not the target audience, I really just want to fuck while I feel like in Bangkok they're selling a whole love experience, I don't know how to explain. I want to just switch off my brain and get railed/rail someone, but I feel like I have to micromanage the Thai boys to do anything, otherwise they just stay there. Feels too commercial maybe. I'll be back for sure, but next time I can just stay for two nights, have some fun and leave, maybe I'll have someone from the forum help me out hahaha

I'm in Brazil right now, been to Colombia 3 times this year so far and visit Asia, alot.

I've broken it down to this:

Asia= great Massage, better hotels at cheaper rates, better business class airlines, AMAZING food....every now and then you'll have good sex, not too often though, lol

Latin Countries= Hard to find good hotels at a decent price, standard airlines, lots of 737 crap service, almost impossible to find someone that knows how to do a proper massage, food varies depending on country (nothing beats Thai food), 95% chance of having good to amazing sex, latins are more passionate and NOT shy. Latins are more fun to hang out with and drink could be because I speak Spanish/Portuguese?, most Asians can't hold their alcohol.

It's well known  that Asian people are more likely to have a genetic mutation that makes it more difficult to break down the alcohol, and hence  are can suffer from alcohol intolerance.  Mind you the defective gene can appear in all races,  it's just that it seems more prevalent in Asian people. I found this in Japan when I visited. As you may know Japanese written English  can be very good, but their spoken English is a lot less good. I'm told they do not get a lot of practice in speaking English in school, etc. Hence, in the evening, over various dinners, the 'Asian flush', as it is rather unsympathetically called, became quite  evident! Bearing in mind that hearing is the first sense affected by alcohol, later in the evening I did a lot of agreeing, and nodding!

I think comparing Bangkok to LATAM is just entirely different experience.

Thai culture in general is more emphasis on politeness, basic courtesy and respect (look at the ‘Wai’ hand that they do all the time). The boys also act in this manner when meeting you. I think this translates to just generally more reserved boys (especially the new ones).  Like you encountered - not all experiences are all the same - and you also had great moments too in Bangkok

The other thing is also language barrier.  If you are from LATAM and can speak the language - of course, knowing the ins and outs of the system generally tilts your experience to the positive being a local versus being a tourist trying your luck. 

On a more positive side, Bangkok is considered much more safe compared to LATAM. It is definitely 100% more commercial like you said because how accessible it is and safe it is.  

TLDR: I think if you are open minded and appreciate the nuances of thai culture, scenes and of course the Asian heritage of its boys - you’ll likely find something that makes Bangkok the gay capital of the world lol.

Interesting perspective and report, thanks for sharing.

I also come from the younger side of the typical demographic for customers, but I would say I rarely feel overlooked, maybe it was just some bad luck on that occurrence with those mamasans.

Expectations vs reality can sometimes be an issue, but I hope you decide to give Bangkok another chance. It can take some time to find the right bars and guys that really match what you're looking for, but there's a lot of options out there, both free and paid. Keep in mind August is also low season, I would test it out again November to February.

Heh, I'm from Brazil! And I agree with most of your points too (except the food, I much prefer brazilian food over thai, but maybe I'm a little biased 😉). We don't really have a tourism focus like Thailand, so I suppose most of these complains are expected (even for locals!). We also don't have much of a massage culture hahaha, some boys offer it but I never tried it out, it's probably pretty shit. I suppose I just enjoy the latino style more, there's just more "fire" to it, I don't know. We're also pretty open as a whole and wilder, come out with the weirdest shit and we'll be excited to try it out, while thais shudder at handcuffs 😜 . Also, I don't know if we're necessarily better at holding our alcohol, but we're definitely experts at hiding we're drunk as fuck😂

I think that's a good point, my ingenuity definitely played against me here. But my main point is still that I just didn't found Bangkok a great city, it's not that it's boring per se, it's just really ordinary. It doesn't feels exotic, it doesn't feels like a vacation, it just feels like I'm back home but with Thai writing and rats. And I just really disagree with Bangkok being the gay capital, the gay life is pretty ordinary, hell, the ones working at gay bars are mostly straight ffs hahaha. The gay venues in Sao Paulo are much better in almost every aspect. I'm not new to Thai culture either, I have tons of Thai friends and classmates, I suppose I just expected that behind closed doors it would be a little different. And I think I just didn't enjoyed much the bar thing as a whole, I just wanna have a good time and be done, but the whole bar thing feels like such a chore... I think I'm just not the target audience

Hahahaha I was actually thinking if this would be asked! The Chinese scene definitely isn't as open as Bangkok's, but it's suuuuper huge! But if you're not a mandarin speaker, I think it would be quite hard to break into. You can find actually quite a huge chunk of it on Twitter, but you will eventually head down to WeChat. Since it's all underground, your best bet is always going to be knowing local people at the specific cities you want to go to. For big cities (most capitals) you can download Blued (the chinese version! the one on the appstore is international) and there will be tons of MBs already, ask them out or befriend other Chinese and ask for tips of where to go or to hook you up into the wechat groups.

For Twitter, you can start following one chinese porn account and follow their followers, the people that comment etc and just build up a lil base for the algorithm to recommend you more stuff. This is where the mandarin knowledge kicks in, because people will use slangs that a translator won't understand, so you need to know them beforehand. The most obvious one is if they have 约/可约 in their bio, it means they're avaliable for hookups, they'll usually say SPA or 按摩 (massage) too. Other keywords can be 可线下，门槛 etc. If you can access 抖音 (chinese version of tiktok), a very large number of "influencers" are MBs too, most hot boys posting sexy videos under 30k followers with a wechat attached can probably be booked (look at the comments too, people usually say if they ever did any porno ;p)

But Chinese MBs aren't really looking for hookups. They're pretty expensive for short time sex, starting at 2000rmb at the low end and 7000+ at the high end, since they get most of their money out of sugar daddying, not really the prostitution itself. So they're looking for a "sponsor" or a bf, servicing you might be a low priority, and they might ask for lots of stuff. Brazilians typically don't like very spicy, apart from Churrascarias, I think Brazilian food to be boring and bland.

I was in Belo Horizonte when I first replied and now Rio....I've been visiting Brazil for 25 yrs and Thailand for about as long. Like both places for different reasons as I pointed out. I lived in Brazil in 2004 for 2 yrs doing visa runs, no residency, now live  in Mexico however, considering a move back to Brazil....Brazil residency is more complicated than Mexico so not too sure 🤔

I actually understand where you're coming from. Having myself spent a lot of time travelling around Asian cities, including Chinese ones, whatever initial charm there is in one's eyes wears off quickly, and all one is left with is seeing everything that is wrong, broken, inefficient, superstitious and plain illogical. As a Brazilian, you're also further removed from the older White perspective.

(I recently met a French tour group that returned from Senegal, and they ooh'd and ahhh'd over the photos and videos they had of precisely all that: half-naked children, superstitious rituals, unfit-for-habitation cottages, outdoor baths, meals cooked beside the toilet, and bone-shaking transport vehicles. They had a wonderful holiday, they said. I secretly suspected that "wonderful" meant it reinforced their sense of Western superiority. If I had dared ask them about Senegalese mosquitoes, they might well have had nothing but praise.

Sometimes, I don't know which is worse - the mostly-gone older generation with their skewed exoticised perspective, or the louder, younger one with no self-awareness at all!
