Guest MonkeySee Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 When walking along Beach Road, I often see Asian tourist groups getting on or off speed boats. One of these boats capsized in the bay. Luckily no one was killed. Sixteen people were taken to the hospital. If you have an urge to take one of these speedboat, be careful. Guest beachlover Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 Not a nice day out for those Koreans. A speedboat carrying Full Moon Party tourists out of Koh Samui had a bad collision with seven injured (no deaths) a couple of months ago: http://www.smh.com.au/world/seven-aussies-injured-in-speedboat-crash-in-thailand-20100627-zbip.html Quote
Guest Astrrro Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 A few years back I was on one of those Samui-PhanGan speedboats on a full moon night. Eight dead, Gulf of Thailand. Not my boat but similar boat, same night. Quote
Guest beachlover Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 Shit... that's turning me off the full moon party. I've a mate who says he heard about a similar incident (no deaths) around the time he was there. Quote

If one must ride on a speedboat, my guess is sitting outside is safer than inside. If staying on KPG, but not in HadRin, don't take your motobike over the HadRin hills at night. Either stay in HadRin or take a songthew. Quote
Guest beachlover Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 Good advice. Are the Samui-KPG speedboats ok at other times (other than full moon night/morning)? Quote
Guest Astrrro Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 Good advice. Are the Samui-KPG speedboats ok at other times (other than full moon night/morning)? I think so, they get overcrowded on full moon night and also some of the captains may be drunk. I prefer ferries. There are ferries from Samui to both HadRin and Thongsla. I doubt that ferry captains will be drinking on the job. Quote
