Guest travelerjim Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 Well...It has been a week or two since GT bought his new mattress topper... I could not imagine why he would go and spend thousands of baht... Now I know WHY... Quote
Guest Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 I love these Ikea commercials. BTW: I still love my mattress. No complaints at all. Quote
Guest lvdkeyes Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 Do fitted sheets fit over it and your mattress? Quote
Guest Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 Do fitted sheets fit over it and your mattress? Yes, it is not that big and they fit fine. It is only about 2 inches thick so it does not take up that much more space. I only saw the King Size at the place we bought this at. Quote
PattayaMale Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 I know 3 people that purchased this mattress topper from Fly Now. All 3 continue to say that it is very comfortable. I paln on getting one this week if they still have them in stock. Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 Can I take this a little further, whilst still more or less on topic? There was an article in one of the papers yesterday about bed bugs. Those who have them rarely realise it until the bed is infested with them. How does one check - and more importantly, how does one get rid of them? Are there specialist firms that handle this, or just the regular pest control people? Quote
ceejay Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 I brought the little buggers back from somewhere a couple of years ago. I can't say where - it could have been any one of half a dozen hotels on that trip. You're most likely to find out you have them when they start biting you. It's always at night - they are sensitive to the Carbon dioxide concentrations that build up around sleeping people. You develop this insanely irritating itch and, on inspection, you will find little dark pink spots - a sort of coral colour - where they have bitten you. I treated the problem with a package of products from a British company called PPC supplies - their website is informative (see the link). They've actually moved on to a new set of products now, but what they sold me did the job. Once bitten, twice shy. I spray the inside of my luggage with a long term residual insecticide before I travel now. By the way, don't imagine this problem is limited to "fleapit" hotels. You can pick them up anywhere. http://www.ppcsupplies.co.uk/bed-bugs-pest-information Quote
Guest beachlover Posted September 7, 2010 Posted September 7, 2010 Glad I never brought any of these home. But I put a dust mite and bed bug proof cover over my mattress and pillows (before putting the linen/covers over these) so no bugs are going to get into/inside these. It's as good as wrapping them in plastic. Quote
kokopelli Posted September 7, 2010 Posted September 7, 2010 Regarding mattress toppers, I saw them on sale in the USA at about $350 (11,000 TB) but two for price of one. Size and thickness did not make a significant difference on the price. This price at two for one seems comparable to what GT reported, 5000+ Baht for the one he purchased in Pattaya. The ones I saw were made in USA. Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted September 7, 2010 Posted September 7, 2010 Regarding mattress toppers . . . What is so special about them? Quote
Guest Posted September 7, 2010 Posted September 7, 2010 Can I take this a little further, whilst still more or less on topic? There was an article in one of the papers yesterday about bed bugs. On my annual visits to SE Asia, I tend to get some kind of red spots on my thighs, which tends to hang around for a few months afterwards before clearing up. Nothing serious. I had thought it was due to massage oil & it probably is, but I am now wondering if unwelcome guests in the bed may be a contributor. Or does anyone else get anything similar? I tend to go for clean budget accommodation, although with maybe 9~10 different hotels over a month there are plenty of opportunities to meet unwanted insects. At home I have a waterbed, which has thin topper which can easily be put in the washing machine. No risks there. Quote
kokopelli Posted September 7, 2010 Posted September 7, 2010 What is so special about them? Nothing that I am aware other than they were made in USA. I am only confirming that the special price (on sale 2 for price of one) was comparable to price in Thailand. I hope to make a purchase of one the next time I visit Pattaya based on the reviews posted on GT. Quote
