Guest lvdkeyes Posted September 4, 2010 Posted September 4, 2010 This is a question for those living in Thailand. What brand of router do you use and do you have problems with internet going down often? I am using D-Link and have been having many problems. Quote

Being technically challenged, is a router the box that links your computer to the phone line? If so, mine is pretty old. Made by Zyxel and given to me by the provider when I took out my first contract. Have only once had a problem with it in about 6 years. The service provider provided a temporary one whilst they fixed the fault. I only have the internet going down if there is a power cut - or undersea cables off Taiwan are severed Quote
Guest Astrrro Posted September 4, 2010 Posted September 4, 2010 i have cable internet which sometimes works great and other times is slow perhaps due to others downloading torrents. If there is a problem with the cable connection, sometmes I can grab a wifi connection. Quote
PattayaMale Posted September 4, 2010 Posted September 4, 2010 I also have a D-Link wireless router. I have had it well over a year and never had a problem. If you look on the back of the router you should see a place to reset the router. Sometimes you must use a paperclip and insert it in the hole where it says reset, and then hold it for a few seconds. The only problem you may have with this is that all the setup information will be lost. You'll then have to reset the router with the information provided to you by your ISP. Quote

mahjongguy Posted September 4, 2010 Posted September 4, 2010 ...reset the router. Often called a "hard reset". Yes, it wipes out your settings. A reset should not be necessary. Just power-cycle the router to clear the stuck connections that cause poor performance. Quote
Guest lvdkeyes Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 Thanks for the replies. The D-Link model we have is DSL-G604T. My BF, who is good with computers knows about the reset. The problems we are having is that we lose internet connection often. It is maddening. Quote
Guest gwm4sian Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 There are some known problems with this device - for instance http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?topicid=10569&forumid=39&page_no=1 A firmware upgrade may help Quote
Guest lvdkeyes Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 My bf has already upgraded the firmware. Still having the same problems. Naybe a new router is needed. Anyone have suggestions on the best to buy that will work for 2 PC's and wireless? Quote
mahjongguy Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 The best-selling home router is the Linksys WRT54GS. What specifically causes you to blame the router? Couldn't the frequent disconnects be the fault of your ISP? Quote
Guest GaySacGuy Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 I have TTnT here in Ubon, and they supply the modem..A Huawei.but I have this bridged to a Linksys router that allows me to use more than one computer, and wireless. It is some hassle to set up, but the router has had no probless...now as to TTnT and their modem and upload speed...another story. Later this month I will be upgrading (I hope it is anupgrade???) to 8mb down and 1mb up..should be better than the present 5mb/540k. Quote
Guest lvdkeyes Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 When we have had disconnections, my bf has called to the ISP and after checking they say there is no problem with the connection. Quote

You mean your ISP knows what kind of connections you and your boyfriend have...whow, they are getting personal!!! Quote
Moses Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 could you please connect to router to 192.168.1.1 and tell me if DHCP is enabled (Setup-DHCP Setup) and how long is lease time for DHCP, and have you programed wi-fi connection to comps via static IP or dynamic? Quote
mahjongguy Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 When we have had disconnections, my bf has called to the ISP and after checking they say there is no problem with the connection. They actually would have no way of knowing that. If the phone line to your house has a partial/intermittent connection somewhere along the way, the ISP would not have any way to detect it. Only a line analyzer located at your house could prove or disprove that the line is at fault. But, there is one way to find a clue: talk on the phone. Call someone from your landline to theirs, talk a while. If the line has static then call someone else. If the static persists, then it's on your line and you can report it to the telco as "noise" rather than to the ISP. Sometimes you end up having to insist that they switch you to a different cable pair. My early years with AT&T were spent outdoors, with duties that included chasing intermittent line faults. Frustrating work. And then I wander around here and see the condition of the phone wires and terminals! It's a nightmare. Quote

It is enabled, lease time is 3600 seconds, WiFi is set for PPPoE/PPoA. Quote
