Moses Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 Friend of mine told in web-chat about tonight heavy rains in Pattaya till early morning. As I know peak of wet season is at different months for different places in Thailand (As per wiki: BKK - Sept., Samui - Nov., PTT - Oct.) How hard is to live in thus places at time of peak of rainy season? Is it necessary to migrate btw cities in Thailand to avoid peak of rains for comfort living? Quote
Guest Astrrro Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 Here is the monthly breakdown for Pattaya. Note that in Novemebr most of the rain is generally at the beggining of the month. And a rainy day is often a brief thundershower, not all day rain. Pattaya Month Min Temp ?C Max Temp ?C Rainfall (mm) Rainy days Jan 22.6 30.4 19.1 1 Feb 24.5 30.6 13.5 3 Mar 25.4 31.5 52.3 4 Apr 26.4 32.7 67.3 6 May 26.4 32.1 176.6 12 Jun 26.5 31.3 79.4 11 Jul 26.0 31.1 76.8 11 Aug 26.1 31.0 90.5 12 Sep 25.1 30.9 201.8 17 Oct 24.3 30.7 249.4 18 Nov 23.4 30.4 133.6 10 Dec 21.6 29.7 4.1 1 Quote
PattayaMale Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 During "wet" it is usually not that difficult to live. True last night after midnight there was a hard rain, but by early morning there was no rain. The weather was very nice and people were off to the beach the shopping malls and every other place. In four years of living here I have only been caught off guard two or three times. If you carry a small umbrella, and if it rains too hard just duck into any business entrance of coffee shop. Sometimes you meet some great people that you would never have met had it not been for the rain. Trying to guess the weather to decide what city to be in or region is like throwing dice. Never can be sure what will come up. I do not get to Bangkok very often so am not sure about there. But Pattaya is no problem Quote

Guest GaySacGuy Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 Ubon has had some major rains over the last week. It caused some localized flooding, but no real major problems. The nice thing about nearly all rains here is that it rains for 30 minutes to about 3 hours, and then goes away..and you can enjoy the rest of the day/evening. Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 Bangkok is generally the same. We have been having regular rainfall over the past few weeks. Most of the time it does not start till around 5:00 pm - perfect for ensuring trouble during the rush hour - and lasts not more than around 30 - 40 minutes. Today I have been swimming and lying in the sun, and now, at 3:00 pm, there is still no sign of rain - yet! The good thing is that if you keep an eye on the sky, you can usually get a good 15 minutes warning. In case I get caught out, I carry around a more sturdy umbrella and a pair of very lightweight waterproof overpants. Next month and part of November will see more problems, though, for those near the river. This coincides with the extra flow coming down from the north and the annual high tides in the Gulf. These always seem to meet in or near Bangkok and cause considerable flooding. Much of the Chao Phraya has sandbags on both sides during this time. I have even seen the pool at the Shangri-La sand bagged! Not much fun for anyone planning to stay there. Quote
Guest RichLB Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 If worries about rain are influencing your travel plans and your itinerary includes Pattaya, I think it will not be a major factor. It rarely rains during the day and even if it does, it only lasts for about 1/2 hour and then it's back to the sun. Heavy rains seem to occur in the wee hours of the morning. Actually, it's really fun to be curled up in bed and listen to the thunder and the rain pelting down. Quote
