Otherwise, an association between two variables is not relative; the correlation simply exists or doesn’t at a grade of magnitude. One could assess, say, the association between facial length and width ratio to aggregate diving score among divers relative to that same ratio and aggregate artistic gymnastics score among gymnasts. These would be objective examples. It’s not lost on me that such an exercise would be ridiculous. But you could go on Twitter X and yield both agreement and loads of eye rolls commenting on subjective impressions of facial features in competitive sports.
