STOP! Posting pictures of such gorgeous men from Brazil! I can not concentrate on my drinking.

Why? Why? Why? Next month I go to South America for 4 weeks and decided to leave out Brazil as I just did not have enough time to go everywhere I wanted! Now it's too late to change the tickets. :(

Has YaYa offered Mojito? (SP?)

A well-made Mojito is the perfect drink for this climate, I think - and to get any party going! Ya, at Le Meridien in Bangkok they make a "Spicey Mojito". It's only very mildly spicey, but it tastes wunnerful! I am not sure what spice they use, but I'll find out and let you know.

I wonder also if your bar staff can make a really dry vodka martini? I have had too many in Thailand which are made with crushed ice - resulting in too much water getting into the drink, or too much vermouth making it too sweet. I was told by a barman in New York's excellent Vice Versa restaurant that a "very dry" martini should only have the vermouth mixed with the ice and then poured off before the vodka is added. An "extra dry" martini, on the other hand, never sees vermouth! It is pure vodka. Vice Versa not only has very large martini glasses, they give you a small shot glass for the "overflow" from the shaker! After one of these, I swear the menu floats in front of my eyes!

Any suggestions? Requests?

Presumably we can have "Sex on the Beach" once the rain starts to disappear :p Can't wait for that!

I have a recipe for a To Kill A mockingbird cocktail (Tequila mockingbird). The bar in Florida where I got the recipe only allows customers to have two. If you want the recipe PM me and I will send it to you.

Bad decision! Seriously... What places took priority over Brazil?!

Also, out of curiosity, are you flying there via Thailand or Asia? If so, how?

Yes, bad decision. But I made it because I was in Brazil before, whereas I have seen no other part of the continent. This time I will spend time in Buenos Aires, the Iguazu Falls, 9 days in Patagonia, Santiago, Lima, Cusco and Machu Picchu. I had hoped to add in Rio for a long week-end before returning home, but I couldn't get tickets.

I am flying out of Bangkok using miles from my British Airways mileage bank. This is useful because it allows 4 bonus flight coupons for internal flights. So, in addition to getting from Bangkok to Buenos Aires via London and back, I get four free internal flights. I have used more miles from the Asia Miles programme to get another 4 flights. So I only had to pay for 2 short ones. Without those freebies, I would not be making the trip.

I had hoped to return via Sydney on LAN Chile and BA, but when I made the bookings last November, there were no seats available on either sector. So I have to return via London.

Ah, right I see. I don't know of any routes that go from Asia to South America without doing a big detour through Europe, Australia or the US.

Sounds like you have a packed schedule! I usually like to combine visiting places where I'll be quite active with a place where I know I'll just chill out or have fun for a few days.

Don't worry about me. I am quite happy with the trip I have organised and will have plenty of time for the sort of fun I enjoy.

Try looking up the Middle East Airlines - especially Qatar and Emirates - and South African Airlines. They'll get you to South America without going through Europe, the US or Australia. I am sure there are others. And for your information, a "detour" via Europe makes the total flying time not much different from routing through any of the other continents. May I suggest a little time spent on google or other search engines before you post - and you might learn a few things.
