Guest travelerjim Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 There will be a blackout in Phuket tomorrow... and I thought our Pattaya power lines were in sad shape...will never think that again! But reading the story, I think Phuket has some of the same construction problems as Pattaya... Blackout in Rawai, Phuket tomorrow Most residents of the area would agree some work is needed. Photo courtesy Robert S. PHUKET: -- Residents of Rawai be warned: the Provincial Electricity Authority has announced a scheduled blackout in parts of the municipality from 9am to 4pm tomorrow to work on high-voltage power lines. The affected area includes Saiyuan Road, from Wiset Rd to Nai Harn Beach, including Soi Khok Yang, Soi Hua Pru, Soi Khok Makham and Soi Naya. Much of Saiyaun Road has been in a sorry state lately as Rawai Municipality continues its installation of a 1,200-meter drainage ditch in the area. read more... tj Quote
Guest beachlover Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 Doesn't look like it will affect those at Patong Beach, which is where most tourists stay. Quote
Guest GaySacGuy Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 TJ...The power lines in Phuket and Patpong do look a lot like the mess you sometimes see in Pattaya. When I was there they were stringing a new fairly large cable, and there were thousands of little feeders for them to work around...really ugly. But, there are some power grids in the US that have a lot of problems too. Quote
Guest beachlover Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 I've heard one of the things Thai people notice (and occasionally sulk about) is how in Malaysia (or at least in KL) most cables are buried. They don't have these ugly overhanging cables like Thailand has everywhere. Quote

The ones I know and have lived around are not familiar with the underground services provided on other areas. Quote

Hell, I grew up in Alabama and we had all those wires and I didn't know there was another option until I went to New York City. Once I did, I did sulk a little. I had a family member just move to Texas and they are next to a long line of these above group power things and it is awful ugly. Quote

Exactly... that's why they might get a little irked to see other countries they feel the need to compete with have advanced so far as to have no ugly overhead cables. It's the realisation the other side of the fence has done better... or like hearing your mate just bought a brand new Audi TT LOL (the prick)... Jealousy maybe... you know? Human nature. Quote
