Guest travelerjim Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 Maybe in the future the police will investigate a little further before relaying on an " unnamed tip-off" for a source for a raid with 90 police officers. FOT, From my years of watching the Pattaya scene, the raids are a "made for TV" special event. Time and time again, we have seen the raids come and go. Many times, the clubs have been given notice in advance (by insider info)of the raid...and sometimes not. There appears to be many police operatives. National, Bangkok, Rayong, Chonburi, Pattaya and Special Task Forces..maybe a combination of several working together. So sometimes the advance word is not given and clubs are surprised. When advance word of an impending raid is given, it is amazing how many clubs take the night off...stay closed... or if they do open, have but a fraction of staff they had the night before. Yet the clubs pay the benefactors for their many licenses, a myriad of BIB's their special donations as tokens of appreciation, then most re-open up again in days, doing the same-same. Recently we have seen several closed permanently. Might that be a sign of the things to come? Some might hope so. All the while - the TV, press, police and "goodie two shoes" NGO's get their token of "in the news" publicity coverages they need to satisfy whomever they are aiming to please - to demonstrate their commitment to eradication of evil in Pattaya. Remember, Pattaya is a Family Destination. IF they all were sincerely concerned about getting the job done, they could do it very quickly. But, one must gather, sadly, there is little to be gained by doing do. TIT, This Is Thailand - so the saying goes! tj Quote
PattayaMale Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 The raids are a necessary part of Pattaya. There are extremely conservative groups that can not stand people having sex or even lusting in their hearts. Without the sex scene Pattaya would never have developed into a city that brings untold millions into Thailand. Look at the condo, housing, shopping malls, restaurants, etc. that have spring up over the last 15 years. Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 There are extremely conservative groups that can not stand people having sex or even lusting in their hearts. Most people fail to realise that Thailand as a whole is an extremely conservative country. They hear about the bars, the saunas, the ladyboys and what have you, and just assume that anything goes. As Newsweek quoted, Thailand is in danger of being known for just two things: golf and sex. Yet, as was discussed in a thread about 6 months or so ago, the sex part may well be on the wane over the longer term. If I can find the title of the thread, I'll post it later. Found it before the edit expired! The thread is titled "What is a House of Prostitution?" and I think the relevant section starts with my post of 18 February 2010. They just want what they want. I wonder if they realise it's just a cycle that never goes anywhere, as TJ described. I'm all for raids to enforce anti-drug and anti-underage laws though. I just can't believe the underage thing is still allowed to go on inside established premises in such a developed location. Are the penalties for business staff and owners purely financial or is there ever jail time involved? Quote
